I worked with Steve in Buxton several years ago and it was a pleasure working with him, such a funny and upbeat chap. Will miss him….

I have known Steve since working in B division 20 years ago, and more recently working alongside NIH – Such sad news, Steve was always a friendly face, happy to help and had a great sense of humour, he’ll be missed so much, my thoughts are with your family at this very difficult time. Ebonyx…

Around 2016 I was posted to a prisoner handling unit at Chesterfield , which is where I first met Steve. He helped me to find my feet and always had time for a chat and a laugh, even on the more stressful shifts. Wind forward several years and I had a nother posting to custody and again resumed my daily interaction with Steve, again he was a joy to work with. His unit were hugely overworked and often late off, but he was always polite and helpful and could raise a smile. On a personal note , he was gentle and kind when I lost my wife last year and it saddens me deeply that we have lost him, my thoughts are with you all x…

I had the pleasure of working for Steve several times over the years initially whilst he was the High Peak Sgt and we had come over from Glossop to assist with some burglars who had run off over Chapel golf course he led from the front we shall say.. Years later when i moved to Dales he was the Gp3 Sgt I was working on Gp1 at the time I can say  you always knew where you stood with him.  I would bump into him whilst he was out at Ashbourne  Shrovetide Football which he always was very enthustiastic about and clearly enjoyed it beer in hand no matter what the weather. One of his qualities was he always remembered your name which i thought really helped you intergrate with the shift. All in all he will be sadly missed by all who knew him and had the pleasure to work with him. Rest in peace Sgt England. Pc Damian Stanton …

I have had the pleasure of working with Steve in person since Dec last year in CIU at Ripley.  Prior to this I have spoken to him on the phone many a time when trying to “sell” a prisoner to his team. He was always a pleasure to speak to and be around and made a difficult job better for everyone, with his experience and knowledge, which is irreplaceable.  His approachable friendly laid-back character (and daily banter) will be greatly missed and I feel privileged to have known him.  My heart goes out to his family at this difficult time, RIP Steve. I had the pleasure to work with Steve at Buxton with him always having a positive attitude to whatever challenges were thrown at him. Recently Id also bumped into Steve on a few occasions at Wyatts Way which again resulted in me always walking away feeling better than I had before. In simple terms Steve was a credit to the job and his family and made what was often a difficult world a slightly better one! With deepest condolence, Shaun Woodcock  …

It was an honour to have spent time getting to know Steve at North Division. His smile and laugh was infectious and you always left a conversation with him feeling uplifted. Not only was Steve a wonderful man, he was an exceptional police officer and leader.  He was made for the CIU role –  at the forefront of crime investigation and where he uses his strengths, daily, to develop others. Steve leaves a lasting legacy in all who knew him, but especially the countless officers who through his guidance and support will continue to fight crime in his memory.  You will be dearly missed.  Hayley     …

I have known Steve for quite a few years now and first and foremost i always found him to be friendly, charismatic with a cheeky playful side to him. We would often debate jobs and disagree from time to time but it was always light hearted and whilst laughing. Steve was good at his job and his level of knowledge and experience was always beyond mine. I have always had the greatest respect for Steve and really liked him both professionally and on a personal level. You will be sadly missed buddy! Stevo…

I only met Steve last year and it was far too short a time to have known him. He was always friendly and welcoming with a big smile whenever I saw him. I always enjoyed our chats together and will never forget him. A privilege to have spent time with him and my heart goes out to all who were close to him. …

Steve, I really don’t know what to write here, I am lost for words and have been since I had the call. A true gentleman whom I have the upmost respect for. You will be missed so much….

Charlotte and family, what a loss you must feel right now. You have my sympathies for what you are going through and i know that no words can make you stop feeling the hurt that you are doing. He spoke about you all so fondly most days and was a very happy and proud family man. Hopefully you can take some comfort from realising how important Steve was to us all here. He and I worked alongside each other in a few roles for the last 7 years and became very good mates, I really will miss him, he’s irreplaceable.  Don’t really know what to write in here, I’ve tried a few times. Just know, he was loved here and is missed so much.  Best wishes, Adam…

Having worked with Steve it is easy to see why everyone loves him. He never said no, even when he said no, he would always help someone even when he didn’t have the time to. He would swear with; and sometimes at, you but make it seem like the most caring thing anyone could say. A rant turned into a solution quite quickly, with loads of common sense and policing knowledge thrown in. He worked hard and expected everyone else to do the same, however, he never missed the opportunity to inject some humour. Steve will be sadly missed by all that knew him. My sincere condolences to all of Steve’s family and friends….

Steve was one of the good guys. His shift loved him and everyone who came in to contact with him knew what a decent person he was.  I look back on our days on B Div with great fondness. RIP mate, you’ll be missed….

Steve was my first Sergeant on CIU in my post as DSI and immediately put me at ease, despite my first day nerves. With his laid-back, friendly attitude, he was a funny guy and the Brummie accent was familiar to me as I have family from Brum…….that along with his colourful language made for a lively shift! He had his staff and officers at his heart and always had your back. You’ll be missed Steve, My love goes out to your family & friends. Rest in Peace xx…

One of the best shifts I have worked on was up at Buxton when Steve was my Sergeant. We were such a close group who trusted and confided in each other which is mainly thanks to Steve’s strong leadership and no-nonsense approach. Thank you to Steve for supporting me through the early stages of my career. You will be deeply missed. It was a privilege to have known and worked with him for all those years and my thoughts and condolences go out to his family. Danny Brooks. Or in Steve’s words “Broooksy”…
