Steve, I am sorry to hear that you have left this world.  You are with the angels.  You helped me when I was struggling, you was compassionate, caring and did all you could to help me.  You was a great Sgt, a fantastic cop and you gave me life advice.    Wishing you well, with love. Sean…

Steve was a remarkable Sergeant. He offered endless knowledge, advice and a fierce commitment to helping and supporting his team. He was invaluable as a Sergeant, but he will mostly be missed as a genuine, hilarious and unforgettable person. I will miss being reduced to tears by his humour, which knew no bounds, and will also miss his kindness. I am so grateful to have known Steve and to have counted him as a friend. He was someone to confide in and I still miss sharing stories with him. I send love and strength to his family, whose loss is unimaginable. …

Dear Steve, I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity to work alongside you at Buxton Police Station – both of us as Sergeants around 2007-8 – a professional relationship that developed into friendship and a mutual respect for each other (notwithstanding your nickname for me ‘Pope on a Rope’). You were caring, compassionate, and kept the tea fund afloat with contributions from your swear box. You looked after your team and in return were well-respected. You’ve had a positive impact on so many officers – new and old alike – and you’re sorely missed.  Rest in Peace Steve, Sgt 2218 – my friend.  Darren Pope. …

My thoughts go to Steve’s family and friends.  Back when Steve was Sgt in the High Peak and I was young in service Steve was always happy to help. He was a friendly face and always made time for a chat when we crossed paths since our careers went in different directions. I still remember going to my first Ashbourne Shrovetide  event some 13 years ago with Steve, JT and others, having beers throughout the day then a curry in the evening. It was a brilliant day full of laughs.  Until we meet again Steve RIP. Dave…

Steve was my Sgt at Buxton on the old B Div many years ago now, he was just a top bloke, kind, funny and could fill a swear jar very quickly with his expletives… He was always there if you needed help or just wanted a catch up which I would often do when up at Ripley more recently. We would reflect on the ‘old times’ which would always bring a smile to our faces. Steve was a great leader and had the respect of all who worked with him, he will be sadly missed by all. He was a great laugh on a night out, I will miss our games of Badminton too, he would always end up winning however close the match due to how competitive he was. Thinking of his friends and family at this sad time. Until next time mate. R.I.P JP…

Like everyone else, I am still shocked by Steve’s untimely death. He was a wonderful man, kind, honest, decent, hard working, passionate and had a great sense of humour. I first met him back in 2015 when he was a support sergeant at Buxton Police Station. He was a great support to me when I was an acting sergeant and would always help anyone in need. He brightened up so many dreary days in the High Peak with his dry sense of humour, his distinctive laugh and a barrage of expletives. More recently I worked with Steve in the Custody Investigation Unit at Ripley Police Station. I last saw him last year after I had moved departments when I was waiting for my laptop to be fixed. Despite not working the in department for some time, Steve invited me back into his office for a brew. We sat chatting and reminisced about the good old days on B Division. Like alot of people, I had no idea Steve was unwell and will look back on our last conversations with great fondness. Steve was a fantastic police officer and sergeant. I hope that Steve’s family and friends know how loved…

Without doubt some of the best memories i have had in the police have involved working and going out with Steve. I was lucky enough to have him as my Sgt some 16 years ago and he was a brilliant leader and friend. More than anything I always remember laughing so much with him. I dont know what made him more angry, when i accidently gassed him full in the face at a domestic incident or when he duffed the occassional golf shot! He always spoke so fondly of his family and daughters and i hope they will take some comfort in knowing how well liked and thought of he was.   He will be very sadly missed.    Tim                            …

I worked with Steve for a couple of years on the same shift at Buxton when he first joined Derbyshire Police. They were great times & even though our careers took different paths in the years that followed it was always a pleasure when we bumped into each other. Steve always had a big smile with his cheerful Brummie accent and always made a point of saying hello to me. I was so sad to hear of his passing and my condolences to his family….

Steve was my boss for around two years. In this time as I got to know him I found that he was a very warm and careing man. He was always supportive with work issues and when my mental health took a nose dive he was there for me. A lovely man whoes energy and fizz I will miss very much. …

One of the highlights of moving to work on B Division all those years ago, was it meant i got to meet and work with some simply amazing people. Steve was one of the best. Wherever our conversation began and ended there was always bouts of laughter. A “common sense” kind of guy who said it how it was. A great cop, a great leader, but more importantly a great bloke. Sending my heart felt sympathies to you and your family. Love Sue Cope xxx…

To Steve’s family, my condolences to you all. Steve always gave the place a lift with his presence and contributed to the workplace – tasks or otherwise – in the most positive of ways. A man who employed his command of basic English to the max, he has left a trail of anecdotes which will continue to be used to raise the mood throughout the nicks of Derbyshire for as many years as there are colleagues who remember him. Although his time was too short, it was well lived and inspiring. Love to you all, and I hope our collective fondness for Steve is a comfort to you. Karl.  …

I first met Steve at Buxton over 20 years ago.  He was a larger than life character and was known and liked by everyone.  He was taken far too soon and will be sadly missed.  Sending love and support to his family.  R.I.P Steve xxx…

It was my honour and priviledge to have known and worked with Steve. He was a good friend and I will miss him coming to my office for a chat, or to purely vent his frustration in one of his colourful outbursts. A big character who will be remembered for years to come.  Sgt Steve England – One of the good ones, taken far too soon. Thankyou for the friendship and memories. Sezza x …

I’ve many great memories of shift nights out after our long 7 day sets at work / trips away with Steve with our old B Div family, we were the babies of the group at that time as I joined a few years before Steve so the oldies educated us on ‘lock-ins’ as private parties where the landlord went to bed and no money was exchanged except what we put in the pot at the end of the night which was more than ample to cover the amounts consumed and the pub keys were put back through the letter box with a bluelight taxi’s home to make sure we all got home safely.  It’s bizarre how Steve and I used to comment that soon it would just be Steve and I remaining from the old B Div with the others having retired or left the organisation that our B Div family was getting smaller by the year and this year the last few of the group retired.  It’s times like those nights out and trips away that will sadly never be replicated in the same way as the B Div way, they proved invaluable to creating solid working friendships…

I was devastated to hear about Steve’s passing. He was my first Sgt and helped me so much, both personally and professionally. I don’t think I would have stayed in the job without his support during some tough times. I will always remember Steve’s sense of humour and hilarious outbursts, particularly at the photocopier! I hope his family will be comforted by how well loved Steve was at work. Rest in peace Steve, you won’t be forgotten xxx…
