In Loving Memory of

Lee Rainbow

Welcome to this memorial and condolence book dedicated to our much loved colleague and friend, Lee Rainbow.

Lee devoted 36 years of service to Barclays, building not only an outstanding career but also lasting friendships with colleagues across the bank. Throughout his time with Barclays, Lee earned respect, admiration and affection of everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. He was known for his kindness, professionalism, wisdom, humour and unwavering support for others.

Away from work, Lee was first and foremost a family man. He was a loving husband to Jo and a proud father to Lucy and Jake, whom he loved dearly. Lee spoke often about his family and was immensely proud of all they achieved. His love, dedication and commitment to those closest to him were evident to all that knew him.

Beyond his work and family, Lee was a passionate and loyal Tottenham Hotspur supporter, and many of us will fondly remember the conversations, banter and enthusiasm he brought whenever football was discussed. His warmth, character and genuine care for people left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

This book has been created to provide friends, colleagues and all those whose lives Lee touched with an opportunity to share memories, messages and reflections. Whether you worked with Lee for many years or only briefly crossed paths with him, we invite you to leave a message in celebration of his life, his contribution and the impact he had on so many of us.

Lee will be deeply missed, but he will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on through the countless people he supported, inspired and befriended throughout his remarkable 36 years at Barclays.

Jo, Jake and Lucy,  it is difficult to find the right words to express the sadness felt at the loss of Lee and even now it is hard to believe that this is real.  To so many of us Lee was known as Mr Rainbow and name that perfectly reflected not only who he was, but also the positivity, kindness and warmth he bought to those around him every day. No matter the challenge Lee, seemed to offer positive encouragement and a smile that could brighten even the most difficult days. I will always remember how naturally people were drawn to him whether for advice support or simply a friendly conversation.  He had an unique ability to make everyone feel valued, respected and welcome. Lee’s kindness, humour and friendship will be greatly missed but the memories he created and the difference he made to so many lives will never be forgotten. My thoughts are with you during this incredibly difficult time….

Words are hard to come by which do justice to remember a truly lovely man who has been taken so tragically and way too soon. Lee, you were one of a small few with the deep knowledge to be always a go to person in Barclays and know you would get the answer (even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear!). This kept you very busy but you always created the time to take on other’s challenges. Since leaving I have enjoyed seeing your regular FB posts showing to everyone the deepest love you had for your family and also your team! My deepest condolences to Jo for losing her soulmate and to the children for having to say goodbye too soon to an amazing dad. Rest in peace Lee.    …

As everyone has already said, Lee was an amazing man. He was just so lovely and kind, with never a bad word to say about anyone. I am so sad to be writing this and am so sorry to Jo and his family to be facing such a tragic loss. Whenever Lee called me he’d always apologise for “being a pain”, which translates to him being good at his job. He couldn’t have been further from a pain and I always enjoyed our chats. What started as a work question would always turn into us talking about our families, holidays and him asking me about cruises! He loved giving me advice about what to expect as my kids grow up – he was such a proud family man and I can’t believe he’s not going to be sharing that wisdom with me anymore. Lee was the heart and soul of our team and it won’t be the same without him. I can hear his voice saying “cheers my dear” as we ended our calls and that makes me smile. You are going to be so missed Lee, by all who knew you….

It’s so hard to believe that Lee has suddenly passed away. I have such fond memories of the time we worked together. Lee was one of those people who could always make you laugh, with his great sense of humour and personality. Above all, he loved his family so much, and that was always clear to see. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Thinking of his family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace, Lee. ❤️…

I first worked with Lee when I moved to 1CP and joined the then MCT Lending Operations team! Lee was always helpful and really knew his stuff! What I will remember most about Lee though was his friendlyness, his clear love for his wife and kids and Spurs! Whilst leaving the team and moving away 13 years ago have meant we did not connect directly, many a time we would comment on each others facebook posts and have some good conversations there! I can’t begin to imagine what a shock this has been for the family or how they will adapt to life without Lee! I hope and pray that they find peace at this time and moving forward to remember someone so dear to them! I can say I was pleased to have met and known Lee and I’m sure everyone else who crossed paths with him would agree on that!…

Dear Jo, Jake and Lucy, I was deeply saddened to hear the loss of Lee.  Having worked alongside him for more than 17 years, I have come to know and respect him greatly, and I can only imagine how difficult this time must be for you and your family.   We often have a chat while grabbing a coffee/tea about Spurs and love to hear his away trips in Europe with Spurs.  Recently I went on a team event with Lee and we played a few old-fashioned games, few pints and banter. Please accept my sincere condolences.  My thoughts are with you and your love ones, and I hope you find strength and comfort in the support of those around you and in memories you cherish….

Dear Jo, Jake and Lucy, I was devastated to learn about the loss of Lee and still can’t believe that it is true. I worked with Lee for many years in Risk and Control, and Lee was always an absolute gentleman. He was warm, funny and had this knack of putting people at ease. Lee had time for people and on many occasions I would message him for his viewpoint and opinion, which he freely shared. He was a “go to” person for so many and his passing leaves a huge gap at Barclays. Lee was such a family man and it was obvious how proud and passionate he was about family. I count myself lucky to have known and worked with Lee. Thinking of you all at this incredibly sad time x   …

I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Lee’s sudden and tragic passing. It was a genuine privilege to have known and worked alongside such a truly wonderful person. Dear Jo, Lucy and Jake, I am deeply saddened and heartbroken to hear about Lee’s sudden passing. I can only imagine the pain and shock you must all be feeling, and I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I had the privilege of working very closely with Lee for many years, but particularly during the Covid 19 lending schemes, which was one of the most intense and challenging periods of our working lives. Lee brought such enthusiasm, professionalism and positivity to everything he did. Somehow, even when the pressure was enormous, he had a way of making those difficult days enjoyable and genuinely memorable. At one point I think I practically had Lee on speed dial, but nothing was ever too much trouble for him. He was always there, always willing to help and always approached things with such energy and good humour. I will remember those times, our conversations and the laughs we shared with so much fondness. Lee made a real impression on the people who had the privilege of working alongside him, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have known him and to have shared such an important chapter of my career with him. Dear Jo, Lucy and Jake, my sincere condelences go out to you and the rest your family and friends but during this time of sadness I am sure you will take great pleasure in reading these lovely messages of a fantastic colleague and friend to so many. I have known Lee for many years and having been in the bank a similar time period i am not exactly sure when i first came across Lee but it was many years ago. In the last few years our paths generally passed for a chat while grabbing a coffee or tea and I loved hearing about his latest trips to watch Spurs, with a small amount of time dedicated to talking about work! He will be greatly missed by so many….

I was very upset & saddened to hear about the loss of Lee. Similar to what many have said of Lee, he was an amazing person & colleague. One of a kind. Over the years, Lee & I have crossed paths many times in our day to day work, some of which during quite challenging times. Lee was exceptional with his knowledge, guidance & support. Always available with a genuine desire to help & always with a smile. Nothing was ever too much trouble & always at the end of the phone to pick his brain on something or ask for his advice. I will always remember Lee fondly as a truly kindhearted gent & an absolute pleasure to have worked alongside. My sincere condolences to all of Lee’s friends & family at this extremely sad & difficult time x…

Dear Jo, Jake, Lucy, My sincerest condolences to you all. Hearing this sad news about Lee has really affected me as it’s the second time I’ve worked closely with an inspirational colleague who is now no longer with us due to tragic circumstances. Lee and I started working together in the mid-2000s in a new role created to support different lending teams. We were on Kirsty Nery’s team. I soon began to realise Lee wasn’t just any ordinary person, he was exceptional! He soon began to find his feet in his new position and became an ambassador to others. He would adopt the “how can I make this work better” attitude to problems and shared his thoughts with others to improve their own productivity and performance, including mine! We would interview new recruits and Lee would find positives in candidates that even I hadn’t seen. Whilst our career paths separated, we still kept in touch and occasionally met up for a “pizza e birra” in a Franco Manca restaurant for a catch-up. He would always talk about his family and how proud he was about them. Indeed, we’d arranged to go and watch a pre-season friendly football match between…
