In Loving Memory of
Alexandra Diengdoh Pavel
After almost two years of battling two aggressive cancers, Alex passed away on 17th May 2021 at the age of 29.
Throughout her life Alex has been cherished and loved by her friends, colleagues and family for her humour, wit, compassion, understanding and down-to-earth approach to life and death.
She was known for her wicked sense of humour till the last days, always posting inspirational quotes such as “I must not fear, fear is the mind killer”. Her rules of engagement were no pity, no bombardment of questions but she welcomed dark jokes at her expense.
Her strong will and determination to fight the dreadful disease by all means included in her last moments, a virtual experience of the ocean or a sail ship, a room spray that smells of the sea and a feast for the senses.
She was an accomplished writer, has published a book of short stories and comics, currently working on a novel in a series of six to seven. She was also a talented artist and a gifted musician, playing the piano, duitara (traditional Khasi instrument), violin and guitar.
Above all she was ever ready to support those in need from helping Mother Theresa’s nuns in St Petersburg with cooking and feeding the old and sick to other activities such as victim support and providing moral support and comfort to friends.
Alex left a huge void in our lives and shattered our hopes and dreams.
Rest in peace our beloved angel, we will be together again in a better world.

Eulogy for our beloved daughter Although we were aware Alex’s chances of survival were minimal after she was diagnosed with the second cancer, her death came as a shock and left a huge void in our life. Words cannot describe the grief caused by her loss. Many knew her either as a friend or colleague. Alex will always be remembered for the soft, compassionate nature, mature approach to various issues and desire to excel. She also had a wicked sense of humour; she nicknamed the cancer ‘the alien’, and she was determined to exterminate it. For us the parents, Alex had been a source of joy and pride. She had been living with us throughout except during the years she spent in University and we shared a lot of things together. She spent many hours with her mother, painting, working together on their book, playing music, watching horror movies and planning the layout of the garden and vegetable beds. She also spent time with me in the kitchen cooking some of her favourite dishes. She was fond of Japanese food, as a matter of fact she introduced us to Japanese cuisine. Alex, what fun we had setting sail on the UOB Sea for the pirate themed summer party, I remember at one of the first event meetings you showed how much you truly loved all things piratey when you came in with mini anchors and crab baskets that you had made-an example of your great talent and commitment to the cause. We excitedly painted the ship together, and enjoyed shopping for all of the bits and pieces for the event! Your ink illustrations were always something I looked forward to seeing and how truly amazing they were. We had a lovely meal together a while back at pizza express and I was in awe of your quiet unassuming nature and knowledge, you even made gdpr interesting (no mean feat!).
