Always someone I could turn to for an honest and effective review of a situation, be that work or personal, Joe helped and supported me constantly throughout our 25+ years working together. Joe’s clear expectations on standards and support for professional development has driven continual improvement in inumerable engineers and technicians in the civil team; he set the bar and delivered to the same high standards he expected of others and certainly inspired me as I’ve grown professionally over the years.

I’ve particularly enjoyed our conversations about cycling – from the banalities of headwinds on our daily commutes (Joe always seemed to have a tailwind whichever way he was going) to the sneaked excitement of listening to and commenting on Tour de France livestreams in the office(!) keeping this going via Teams over the last couple of years – having a fellow obsessive to share the passion has been invaluable.

While we are a poorer team without Joe, we are a stronger and more capable team for having had Joe with us as a positive team member and an effective leader. You will be missed, my friend.
