Dr Oghenekome Gbinigie (Kome)

My deepest condolences to Kome’s loved ones. I am in disbelief and shock at the loss of such a wonderful, kind and inspiring person. I knew Kome from our research group on infections. She was a talented researcher who would surely continue to do lots of impactful research and help so many patients. But what I will always remember and miss most about Kome is the kind of person she was – how positive, gentle, warm and genuine she was, her big smile and sense of humour, and how much joy it was to be around her. My fondest memories are from our departmental Christmas parties and trips to the GRIN conferences. I loved that she was as keen as me to do some sightseeing (while trying not to get lost!) and she was so in awe at the pretty sights. Her presentations were always perfectly delivered and I appreciated her supportive reassurances that my presentations would/did go well. The picture is of Kome, Marta Wanat and I as we explored sunny Lund before the GRIN conference in September 2022.

I will miss her.
