I remember Neil as a great friend growing up in Llandudno in North Wales. We were classmates throughout secondary school at Ysgol John Bright. Neil was always one of the top academics in the class in what was exceptional year group (myself not included!). He was always a great competitor and a talent at sport; be it rugby, cricket or whatever he turned his hand to. Moreover, he was always a kind, decent person with a great sense of humour and a great friend. I was not surprised Neil went on to achieve great things in academia as he always showed immense determination, and academic talent and aptitude. We are still in shock at his tragic loss.
