In my role as Treasurer I had regular contact with Joy when she was Churchwarden at Holy Trinity but our relationship grew beyond the job specs and she became my friend. She was a real rock to me when I needed support with the task of keeping the accounts and gave me constant encouragement, practically and with much humour.  She was amazing.   I have some lovely memories of us both having a cuppa around my dining table and both of us laughing out loud at some ridiculous comment, or other.  I missed her as soon as she moved away from Stroud and will grieve her absence from this life too, but I have the comfort of knowing she will receive life eternal.  …

Joy’s dedication and commitment will live on in so many people’s memories. She was an inspiration and I shall miss her humour, advice and support.  My thoughts and prayers are with all her family and I pray that they will be comforted and sustained by our dear Heavenly Father. …

So many happy memories of Joy over the years I specially remember the evenings we spent sorting out the church rota with much chat over cups of tea. she was a valued friend and her work for Trinity Church was amazing. She is very much missed but very much in our thoughts and prayers.  M T…

We all have such fond and vivid memories of Joy. She was a great friend and support to my parents Bill and Rosemary during her time as churchwarden at Holy Trinity (she would share many a text with Dad about the latest Test match results!) and a treasured friend and support to me personally. She had great wisdom, thoughtfulness and kindness not to mention a forthright mind and a wonderful sense of mischief and fun as can be seen from the photo of her gleeful “playing” of the rifle in Malcolm Arnold’s Grand grand Overture with the symphony orchestra!Joy was a warm and welcoming presence at our Stroud Symphony Orchestra and Capriol Chamber Orchestra concerts and many of our players also have fond memories of her. Her light and laughter will live on in our hearts and memories. Rest in Peace Joy x…

There are lots of photos we would like to add showing PNK 6 and Joy and Geoff enjoying themselves over the years. However, I suppose we need to leave some room for other people to add their condolences! We have known Joy for so long that she is, despite the distance of 12,000 miles, always part of our conversations. Bette was one of her bridesmaids when Joy and Geoff got married in 1970 and was delighted that her long dress and sleeves hid the bruises she had from falling off a bike a few days before the wedding! We borrowed a friend’s bus so that we could take the whole group to the wedding breakfast and there are photos of Joy – in full wedding regalia – trying to climb into the driver’s cab. Lots of memories of our two families – I met Bette at the wedding and married her the following year so we had a good arrangement of frequently visiting each other at Manchester or Leicester or Ruddington. There are so many enjoyable visits that we cannot write about them all. Our sympathies go to all the Family.   EDITOR’s note – to clarify PNK6 is…

The Revd. Michael Withey

Joy was a kind compassionate caring lady. She had a deep faith and used her many gifts serving in the Church and ministering wherever there was need. An efficient and hard working churchwarden for many years, she was a friend with an almost endless capacity to get alongside people with understanding and kindness. Joy was a member of Stroud Hospital’s chaplaincy team where she exercised her pastoral role with great faithfulness. Her loyalty and energy has been a tremendous example. I think that she would not welcome long wordy tributes, but want us to get on with our tasks wholeheartedly and cheerfully just like she did!  Joy, you have taught me much and brought laughter and love to the world around you.
