In Memory of

Fred Teagle

On March 4th, 2021, Fred Teagle passed away aged 80 at Mount Edgecumbe hospice after a battle with cancer. A proud Cornishman, Fred grew up immersed in agriculture, heavily involved in Threemilestone Young Farmers Club, and surrounded by the growing Teagle Machinery business.

Fred lived next to the factory with his wife Dinah and sons Roger and Colin whilst he saw the company expand from serving local farmers to become a truly international business. As a passionate and talented engineer with an insightful, no-nonsense approach, Fred managed the production departments and ran the site at Tuckingmill for many years. Throughout his career he was always focused on continually improving processes and adopting the latest technology. Latterly Fred served as Chairman of Teagle Machinery Ltd., involved with all aspects of the company where his commitment and innovation drove the business forwards. In recent years Fred oversaw the appointment of a management team at Teagle to ensure a sustainable business for the future. Family members who remain as directors of the company include his sons, Roger and Colin, his brother John and nephew Tom.

During his ‘retirement’ Fred still remained on-hand in the business and delighted in the opportunity to share his pride in the company when hosting open days or guiding factory tours. Fred recently co-authored the company’s 75th anniversary book, sales of which raised more than £12,000 towards the Cornwall Hospice Care, of which Fred and Dinah were committed fund raisers.

Fred was proud of his Cornish roots and was always supportive of his family and friends. He was an accomplished small-bore rifle shot and was heavily involved in the City of Truro and Cornwall county rifle clubs for more than 50 years. He will be much missed by his sons Roger and Colin, his grandchildren Sam, Jenna, Alex, Amy and Adam; and his brothers David and John.

What very sad news this was. My condolences go especially to all of Fred’s family. I only knew Fred for the last several years since he welcomed me on joining the City of Truro Rifle Club. His kind and friendly approach to help anyone by sharing his deep knowledge of target shooting was immediately apparent. He was indeed a nice man and will be greatly missed….

What a rich and fulfilled life and it has been such a true honour to have known and be a friend of Fred for over 42 years.  Fred’s knowledge, wisdom and insight has been so valued to me in this time and we will miss him greatly.  Such wonderful times and memories.  Warmest thoughts to Roger, Colin and family.  Rest in Peace dearest Fred, reunited in loving union with Dinah xxx…

My first meeting with Fred was when I was at Kidd Farm Machinery: there was a dispute between Teagle and ourselves over a bale chopper patent. Fred’s attention to the detail and his research into the background, including a trip to Denmark to find prior art was, as always, meticulous. All was resolved amicably and we continued to meet for many years after that on different industry matters and ideas. He was someone with commitment to our industry, honesty and fairness, and would always give help and advice when asked. He will be sorely missed from the world of agricultural engineering, his friends and family.    …

My condolences for your loss I first met Fred when my wife arranged for me to go on a try out at shooting at City of Truro Rifle Club. Fred was very welcoming and since I joined the club after that visit, Fred was always willing to share his great depth of knowledge and always had a kind word and was a large presence in the club in more ways than one he will be sadly and greatly missed. Rest in peace Fred …

My first memory of Fred is of a boy at Truro school. A few years later as a young man in the YFC movement at Threemilestone club. And then surprise, surprise he turned up at Tregaddra in about 1963. Arriving for the first time before Dinah was home from work, he was sitting outside in the car while an embarrassed future father in law was debating with himself if he ought to invite him in.!! The end result was a wedding at Cury in 1965 and two sons and five grandchildren. As our brother in law for the last 55 years he has been a good friend and much admired for the care he lavished on Dinah in her last year or so. Thanks for all the good memories and may you rest in peace together . God bless.            …

Please accept our deepest condolences for your loss. Fred was a wonderful man, with a loving heart. He and Dinah gave so much to our charity, helping so many in their final days, it was our privilege to care for him. Fred will be sorely missed by so many! May he rest in peace….

Blackwater Village Trust

In Blackwater we have been very shocked to hear of Fred’s death. He was a regular at our Poppins Friendship Group every Thursday  morning and frequently entertained the other members with his stories. He particularly enjoyed our Christmas Lunches each year and would come dressed in his festive jumper, ready for fun, particularly with old colleagues from Teagle’s. He supported many other of our events, particularly the annual Spring Show and Vintage Vehicle Rally. At the show he entered his art work and preserves which always won prizes. For the rally he brought exhibits to display outside the hall. He supported many other Village Hall events, nothing was too much trouble. When new lights were installed not quite to our plans he lent us a scaffold tower so that it could be corrected. There is a great deal of respect for him in the village and he will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time….

We have been lucky to have had Fred and Dinah as our neighbours, both now gone. Our sincere condolences to their friends and to all the Teagle family. We shall miss Fred’s gardening guidance, including very precise measurements for trimming the hedges. He proudly shared produce from the orchard and glasshouse with us and gave tours around the factory which my Dad particularly enjoyed, as a fellow engineer. We will continue to enjoy his immaculate garden in passing and remember a quiet but kind neighbour. Thank you, Fred. May you now rest in peace with Dinah….

So sorry to hear of Fred’s passing and my thoughts are with his family at this time. Fred invested so much of his time with me teaching me the art of target rifle shooting, of which I have fond memories. I hope he finds peace now whenever he is….

Remembering many happy visits spending time with both Fred and Dinah. He used to print programmes for us when I was involved with various organisations. He was an amazing engineer and was happy to talk and show us the range of machinery made at Teagles. It was  an honour to know you, Fred.  Rest in peace, together again with Dinah. …

I have many happy memories of times spent with both Fred and Dinah.  They were both such fantastic friends and they will remain in my heart for ever.  Fred phoned me just a couple of weeks before he died and he was so positive, praising the staff of the hospice for their care.  Fred….it was a pleasure to know you and call you my friend.  You are now at peace and with Dinah.  …
