Memories of

Charlotte Clare Pearse

Mum & Nanna, much loved by all.

Sadly missed, but joyfully remembered.

An Irish prayer for you, Nanna,

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,

may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Clare was an inspiration to me. I first met her when I had just qualified as a social worker, and I had my first job in Tower Hamlets. I was completely out of my depth and Clare took me under her wing. She was wonderful to me, and I was so impressed with her many skills, vast experience, clarity of thinking and empathy and creativity with the often deprived and traumatised children we worked with. The informal training she gave me was precious and has helped me through many difficult experiences. I can still remember the very witty and concise Irish phrases she shared with me, which just captured the complex dynamics I might be struggling with. She was fun and generous and so kind and thoughtful and proud and she will be missed but always valued. My condolences to Lawrence and her family, with whom she spoke so warmly about….

Clare you can be very proud of Lawrence, Han and their family who worked so hard to provide you with the love, care and dignity you deserved. they also choose Saint Francis Hospice where you received the compassion, and respect and treatment you required. It was lovely to have the opportunity to see you there looking as beautiful as always with your nails painted. I am greatful for the privilege of the precious time I was invited to have with you including the constant refreshments Lawrence and Han provided which made me very welcome and your support to us as a family living nearby when the children were young. Say hello to the ones we love. Slan agut  Jilly  Xx      …

Although very sad to learn we lost a lovely, caring and exceptional sister, Andy stressed the fact Clare would not want us to be grieving at our loss- I am sure he echoed Clare’s outlook. I spoke with her a week or so before she left us- I was amased at her strenght and, as usual, her exceptional courage in the face of anything. I sence she is now in a better place and among a lot of good company. Clare. as you all well know, dedicated most of here life to caring and loving other people, especially children that that did not have the prescious memories and support we had. As a yourg teenager in London, I was priveleged to experience first hand her gift for looking after under-privileged childeren in an exceptional manner. Never once would she recognise her exceptional talents and love for the children. I can recall times when she fearlessly addressed situations wherein she was exposed to physical threats adn abuses when she protected children. As a young married man in a small town house in Wood Green, it was not unusual for me to come home after a lot of travel to find…
