They say you should never meet your heroes, but Kev was an exception to that rule and I was fortunate enough to meet him on many occasions. I felt honoured to be able to discuss mountain passes and routes to refuges with someone as knowledgeable as him as I started my own journey into outdoor writing, and I was always warmed by how much interest he showed in my adventures – so humble in comparison to his. To me, he was a true role model and I’m sad to think there will be no more conversations like those. I’ll raise a glass to you tonight Kev, and stop for some reflection on the next summit. Go in peace. My condolences to all that were close to him.
