I first got to know Dens about 20 years ago, working with her in what was then the magazines department, and then later in the Physics World team. Dens was a joy to work with, obviously devoted to Physics World, rather strict when she was running meetings, but a lot of fun, and always willing to listen and help with any problems.
For a few years I sat opposite Dens in our Temple Circus office – she had the prized dual-aspect window desk in the corner of our fourth-floor enclave. Those were some of my happiest times at work. I loved sitting near Dens, having quick catch ups every morning and little chats during the day. We also had some great Physics World nights out over the years – one I remember in particular was a team-building cocktail-making class. Dens and I teamed up to learn how to create tequila-based concoctions, I can’t remember how well they turned out…
Dens was a fabulous colleague and a great friend and I will miss her a lot.
