HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

Here at Bath we join with the rest of the country in mourning the loss of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time, and especially with Her Majesty the Queen and our Chancellor, His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex Prince Edward, on the loss of his father.

Prince Philip shared a passion for inspiring generations of young people. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has created a legacy of equipping and empowering young people from all communities to build the skills, confidence, and resilience they need to make the most of life.

A keen supporter of University education, he also helped us to mark key moments in our growth as a University community, visiting Bath as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002 and in the same year officially opening 9 West, home to our Department of Chemical Engineering.

He leaves an extraordinary legacy of public service as the longest serving Consort to a British monarch.
