Richard and I worked together and discussed research strategy, the PhD applications and how to publish and obtain funding. A calm man but he didn’t suffer fools gladly and had high standards for the university and the team. I’ll never forget his motto: Horses for courses. In that sense, Richard was miles ahead understanding diversity, equality and inclusion in his own pragmatic way. He inspired to try again and try better.
