Philip was a genuinely thoughtful and interesting man, with an enquiring mind. He always had something interesting to say, whether it was a comment on current affairs, particularly politics and science, or something he had been thinking about or reading.
Philip read The Spectator, and I always enjoyed comparing articles and features with him and hearing his thoughts. What I especially appreciated was that Philip didn’t just talk — he listened too. He was genuinely interested in what others had to say, which made conversations with him so enjoyable.
He was a warm, intelligent and thoughtful person. I feel very fortunate to have known him.
Rest in peace.
