Dr Philip Joseph Brown
Philip Brown was a tour de force in pharma publishing and had a great impact on my life. My first proper job after university (having been interviewed by Vicky) was at Pharmaprojects back in 1995, and I then moved three years later to Scrip as a trainee science reporter, and I’m still there, 28 years later, with some colleagues from that time – a testament to the lasting impact he had and the interesting and useful publication he founded, I think.
I have many fond memories from those early days working with Patricia at Otterman House, and Philip popping in regularly to speak to John Davis and the other editors, especially after some major merger was announced or a drug was withdrawn or some other big news from our world. There have been so many changes in both publishing and biopharma since then days, but the legendary fancy dress Christmas parties at the Richmond Hill Hotel are also still talked of whenever we old-time PJBers get together.
Philip was always kind to me and encouraging in my career, and he even approved a company loan to help me get on the property ladder – something of which he greatly approved!
I hope that his memory will be a blessing. May he rest in peace.
