In my entire career in Shell spanning 34 years, I can think of no one who had a greater impact on shaping our ambitions and driving ideas forward that Graeme.  I count myself fortunate to have been working on the development of fuels at a time when Graeme arrived as our Head of Research, challenging the status quo and transforming the whole approach to developing and marketing differentiated products.   His subsequent support for the development of biofuels, addressing the challenges of climate change, was no less visionary, passionate and committed.  His ability to relate all this to the on-field tactics of Manchester United were legendary – Mary and I were indebted to him for the tickets to Old Trafford he let us use on the rare occasion when he was away and couldn’t take up his season ticket seats.  We were deeply saddened to hear of his recent passing.  His considerable presence will be greatly missed, but he will most certainly live on in the memory of everyone who was fortunate to have known him.
