David was such a friendly and kind man. I only had the pleasure of working with him directly on a handful of occasions as an anaesthetic trainee, but he always made time to talk to me, even in passing in the corridor. His manner with his patients and his care for them was exemplary and to me he really demonstrated a deep compassion and empathy in his work. I have subsequently as a patient myself come to value this immensely and have tried to follow his example. He will be greatly missed x
