Professor Simon Keay FBA

I was deeply saddened to hear of Simon’s passing. He was a treasured colleague, both an exceptionally fine scholar and a lovely person. All of us who came in contact with him at Faculty level in committees and research meetings will remember his kindness and decency. Though I’m not an archaeologist, I relished finding out about his work on Roman ports: he was not only respected and admired by fellow scholars but gifted at explaining his research to a much wider public, including his colleagues elsewhere in the university. My condolences to his family and friends on his loss.
