A warm hearted, genuine, sincere human being who it was a pleasure to know since he joined Army Sport. A true team player who was so supportive to our organisation with guidance, advice, emphathy and understanding. I thoroughly enjoyed the occasions when Al came into our offices and we would sit and talk. The fantastic stories, experiences and knowledge, wonderful demeanour. Just prior to Christmas Al provided an assurance visit to one of our Army Women’s matches in Middlesex. It was great to be in his company for the evening. He engaged with everybody and was so attentive to ensure that everything went well. It was also a pleasure to sit next to Al at the Army Sport Christmas dinner where Al shared the story and image of when he went to see Bruce Springsteen at Hyde Park. A fascinating and humourous story from a fascintating man. On behalf of all at the Army Football Association we extend our deepest sympathies to Al’s family and friends. It is the mark of the man that you always felt better and more upbeat after being in Al’s company. RIP Al.
