Peter Hoffman
It was very sad to hear the news of Peters death. I had always looked up to him from a junior member of staff in IPC and throughout my career. Initally, he was a voice on spider phone, when the Trust I worked in was grappling with a difficult neo-natal outbreak. His words of wisdom, his clear and pragmatic approach reamins a resounding memory. It was very clear his motivation and drive came from a strong desire to prevent harm. As my career progressed I was lucky enough to hear him speak on many occassions. I am sure I speak for all who heard him, his sessions were always packed, the ones to be at, if he was on the agenda, you wanted to be there. His were the key messages you would take back and implement in your Trust. He continued to be there a stable presence whenever a outbreak or incident involved difficult environmental issues or decisions.
In later years I attended one of his built environment courses at Eastwood House. This opportunity allowed me to get to know the other side of Peter, that course was hard work, but we all learnt so much in a enjoyable and relaxed setting. No question as to stupid, and I had many of those! I will not forget the hike on the final day either.
The word legacy is often overused, but in my view that is what has been left. As someone whom he barely knew I can assure the reader he influenced my learning, my development, my ways of working into the future. I am very sure he did that for a large number of people who haven’t writtian on here. My entry I hope represents that group of people.
