Helen McAree
I first met Helen when I started at Rosendale Children’s Centre in March 2009. Helen was the outreach worker and I had started as the Early Years Educator. Helen was extremely welcoming and she made me feel part of the team instantly. I worked very closely with Helen at Rosendale Children’s Centre for nearly 5 years. Helen had many great skills, she was super orgnaised and efficient. I will always remember Helen for her love of a spreadsheet and she had a weird way of making them seem interesting!
I remember when she was pregnant with Noah and Charlie. Me, Helen and Clare met in Costa in Brixton for a coffee date. Helen had everything planned for the boys arrival in the form of a spreadsheet- there was nothing she missed out on this spreadsheet! It was nothing that came as a surprise as Helen always had everything covered.
Helen was very creative and had excellent attention to detail. She took pride in putting together the children centre programme each term for families whilst at Rosendale CC. She was very proud to show us what she had done at team meetings and she always seemed to have got it perfect.
Helen will always be the “Raising Boys” expert to me! She didn’t have her boys when she was delivering the programme at the time. However, I will always remember her love for delivering Raising Boys to parents and the passion she had and how much parents valued Helens knowledge and supportive nature throughout the programme. I was truly gutted in 2010 that I had a daughter and not a son, as Helen always said I could join her class if I had a boy.
I cannot forget Helen’s love also for her baby massage sessions- I was very lucky to have been part of one of Helen’s baby massage courses when I had my daughter, we took part in 2011, when she was only a few weeks old. I still have the certificate and baby massage sheets after completing it from Helen in India’s baby box.
Working with Helen and watching the amazing work she did inspired me to want to go into a family support role. She was very supportive of this and gave me lots of encouragement to apply for the Deputy Manager/ Outreach role at Jessop Children’s Centre. I will forever be garteful of this, as I have learnt and grown so much in the 10 years of being in this role.
Helen was not only my colleague at Rosendale, she has been my colleague in her differing roles throughout Lambeth over the past 10 years, and a friend.
Helen had so much passion and love for her work with families, I always knew when she became a mummy to Noah, Charlie and Eliza, she was going to be the most amazing mummy, which she was.
Helen was an incredibly hard working, caring, kind, knowledgeable and skilful woman, she will be missed dearly. I am very grateful I got to work with Helen for the past 14 years and to have her as a friend. You will always be in my thoughts Helen.
