When I rejoined Turnberry in the early 80s, Ian was very welcoming and for many Saturdays till mid 90s we enjoyed a very competitive and enjoyable 4 ball along with Gordon Erskine and Iain Passant….am sure you can imagine the banter and fun with that gang. When Ian’s three boys became old enough to golf, he then devoted much of his golf time for their development.
Ian was a naturally talented golfer but also worked hard at his game to improve his swing and reduce his handicap. His endeavours were rewarded when in 1993,he became club champion. A worthy goal achieved.
His love and pride in his family was always very apparent in our many conversations. He was always so enthusiastic and positive, very organised and in control of his life. He carried these traits into his successful working life…. a born salesman.
Like the aforementioned Gordon and Ian P, he has been taken when still so much to offer and bring to our lives.
A great loss to us all but especially Christine and the boys.
