Dan Pearson
This is such sad news, bringing tears to my eyes. Dan was a good friend, a knowledgeable colleague and gave me much needed personal support during the challange of cancer. I first met Dan in 1985 when I was doing a PhD at Roslin and was looking for information about meat chicken leg health. In the early 90s when I returned from Australia and I became involved in BVPA and poultry I started to see a lot more of him. We worked together on the BVPA committee, he became president and helped me enormously during my presidency. His pragmatic approach and knowledge helped me throughout my career as we frequently and enjoyably interacted professionally. Socially he and Christina were great company. Dan had a genuine interest in others and was good company. We socialised in many different environments from rugby at Murrafield, sometimes with the pleasure of our kids at an Australia Scotland game, and at EU PVSG meetings. The last time we met up was a Christina’s birthday celebration. Shared interests and love of our respective families, cycling, travel, Australia and in depth knowledge of the meat chicken industry were always discussed in depth. He will be sorely missed and I am deeply saddened by his premature loss, especially to his family who he deeply loved above all else.
