Mary Ireland

Mary gave me my first big break and for that I’ll always be hugely grateful. She saw something in me that she knew would fit with Bancroft’s and I’ve been very happy here. I felt very looked after by Mary as she supported me through my early years of teaching, championing my successes and guiding me through. I have such fond memories of her, from a fabulous Burn’s night celebration when even after my dismal attempt at playing the bagpipes she was still able to give me a pep talk about how I could do anything if I put my mind to it, something that as a young teacher stayed with me and encouraged me to work hard and strive for what I wanted.

I also remember a time where my Dad had been ill with Cancer and although she was so busy, she personally covered my lessons and allowed me to take it a bit easier at School. Having your Boss show so much care and compassion was so powerful. She checked in with me regularly about my Dad after that and her joy when he got the all clear was only surpassed by my own.

I’m sorry she didn’t get the time to do all the wonderful things she had planned and spend more time with her family who she always spoke of so highly. I hope the messages bring some joy as Mary had a huge influence on so many and will be missed.
