In Loving Memory of Adedoyin Onagoruwa
It is with a very heavy heart that I mourn the untimely passing of my dear friend and fellow alumnus, Adedoyin Onagoruwa.
Adedoyin was a jolly good fellow way back in our school days in Ife—warm, friendly, full of life, and someone whose company was always a pleasure. Years later, when our paths crossed again here in the United States, it was wonderful to see that he remained the same Adedoyin we had known back then: pleasant, approachable, good-natured, and genuinely happy to reconnect with old friends.
The last time I saw him was at one of our college reunions, which he attended with his dear wife, who is also an alumna of our college. He was his usual wonderful self, and looking back now, I am especially grateful for that opportunity to see and spend time with him again.
At our most recent reunion over the Labor Day weekend this year, I noticed his absence and asked a mutual friend about him. I was told that he was busy and therefore could not attend. Never could I have imagined that only a few days later, I would receive the shocking news of his untimely passing. It was difficult to believe then, and it remains difficult to comprehend now.
Adedoyin also possessed admirable leadership qualities. As the class governor of his set, he was entrusted with responsibility and demonstrated an ability to relate well with people and bring others together. The warmth, respect, and friendships that followed him long after our school days are a testament to the kind of person he was.
His passing is a painful reminder of just how fleeting life can be. We will miss his presence at our gatherings, and there will always be that sense that someone who should have been among us is no longer there.
My heartfelt condolences go to his beloved wife, his entire family, his classmates, friends, and all his loved ones. May God grant them the strength and fortitude to bear this painful and irreparable loss, and may the beautiful memories they shared with him bring them comfort in the difficult days ahead.
Adedoyin, your journey may have ended far sooner than any of us could have imagined, but you leave behind memories that time cannot erase. Your place in the hearts of those who knew and loved you will remain.
You will be sorely missed. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace, dear friend.
