Although I didn’t get to meet Michaela in person, her commitment to the work we share on SGVB transpired from the first meeting.  I remember her insightful questions, and wonderful energy. May she rest in peace. …

I first met Michaela many years ago as a much younger ADB gender specialist when she visited our Manila HQ representing EBRD for gender events, and she was so friendly and warm. It has been an absolute pleasure to work closely with her again over the past 2+ years as peers in the MDB Working Group on Gender. Michaela was always sincere, geniune and supportive. When I last spoke to her in early December, we were still planning a joint AIIB-ADB training event. Her professional commitment and drive to make a difference right until the end was nothing short of inspiring. Rest well and be at peace Michaela. …

I will miss Michaela’s energy and passion for life and her committment to promoting awareness of vulnerable people.  I met her more than a decade ago in the MFI working group on Environmental and Social Standards. She always inspired me with her sharp observations and passion for the work we do.  I always looked up to her as a mentor and most recently in our last MFI meeting, I was so surprised at how much energy she had even though she was ill. I remember the last time we spoke at a another MFI meeting where she shared with me how she was learning new languages. The world has lost a wonderful person but rest assured that her spark and wisdom will live on in many of use forever. My sincere condoloences to her family and friends. She has touched us all.  …

I met Michaela only a dozen times, mainly when she was visiting her brother David at the same time.  But every encounter was marked by energy, spirit, and an unquenchable zest for life.   One particular memory was a somewhat raucous brunch involving just the two of us where we exchanged professional news, and lots of gossip, and opined on how we would improve the world.  I cannot remember if the fuel was champagne or coffee but the conversation was electrifying with Michaela’s energy and wit.  She was a force of nature for good in our lives.   So sorry that she was taken at a young age.   …

Dear Michaela’s family, friends, Please accept my condolences. I still remember the first time I met Michaela in Belgrade, Serbia. We both worked as social development specialists for European banks. Later on we became colleagues at EBRD.  Michaela, you were truly the most dedicated and tireless promoter of social development, a strong voice for those often overlooked. It was your energy and drive that made the lives better for countless people. Your passion and laughter made this world a better place. Rest in peace, Dearest Michaela.  With love, Evelin…

Although I only spoke with her a few times, it was obvious that Michaela was a very special person. Intelligent, compassionate, an open heart that sang to everyone who came into her company. She made you feel calm, and that everyhting would be okay, that everything could be put to right, and for so many in the world that’s exactly what she achieved, she put things right. It was such a shock that a soul so bright and pure was taken when Michaela still had so much more to give. My thoughts and prayers are with her family….

Dear Michaela, we are devastated that you are gone so early, and that we will never see you again or hear your infectious laugh. Everywhere we turn, there are gifts from you – the cards from your travels (so that the children learn their capitals!), the stuffed toys, the books, the kite, my favorite cup, and my bookmarks. We miss you terribly, and the world is a lesser place without you. …

I met Michaela about two years ago when she started to take Pilates sessions with me.  We always worked as a team to find a way to move, even in the most difficult times, but particularly during the last months in hospital. Her greatest joy was succeeding to water ski on her holidays in Greece. She would sent us the videos and we were incredibly proud of her. Michaela was such a strong and positive person and she will always be an inspiration to me. I will miss her dearly! I am sending my deepest condolences to her family and friends.        …

I feel so privileged to have known Michaela and have taught her Pilates at the hospital. I will never forget the radiant and warm smile she gave me when I saw her before Christmas. I taught Michaela for a few years and we bonded over our love for Greece and warm weather. Intelligent, considerate, determined, kind, and with a great sense of humor enriched our lives. I miss her dearly. My deepest condolences to Alan, Viorica, and the family for your loss.  …

Even in the short time I knew Michaela, we formed a special bond. I met her last September in London and we had dinner at a fantastic restaurant she had suggested. She recently informed me of her decision to quit AIIB and we talked for a long time on December 8, 2022 on what we could do together to push forward the gender agenda, even though she was retiring from AIIB and I was retiring from the IMF. I was struck by her dedication and passion, and her desire to live and contribute to the cause. We will sorely miss her but she will continue to inspire us. My deepest condolensces to her family and friends. Ratna Sahay, Senior Advisor on Gender, IMF…

Michaela and I worked together whilst she was at the AIIB and she was truly one of the most inspiring people I had met during my time there. I was always inspired by her standing up to do the right thing, not being afraid to speak up and the dedication she had to her work/the people she worked with. I am sad to not have had a chance to meet her again over the last year and this news came as a shock. Also sending condolenses to her family. …

My deepest condolences to Michaela’s family for her loss. Still hard to believe that she has passed away. I was so honoured to have met her and to be able to see her as acupuncturist almost every week. She was a strong and positive yet caring and kind person, an inspiring and wonderful woman. I miss her and our conversations so much. It was the only last few weeks when she started whining but she fought very hard against the cancer until the very end and I really hoped she could go though.. Rest now and sleep in peace….

Dear Michaela, How happy I was when I learnt that you were going to join me in Beijing – such luck to have a good friend share a far-away adventure.  And we shared – through long walks in search of the authentic Chinese tea houses, visits to museums and art galleries or more mundate catch-ups over lunch in the local canteen at the bottom of our office building. I will miss your warmth, your generosity and honesty and our good times together. With lots of love, Diana…
