In Loving Memory of

Marilou Pia

Sanj recently shared the very sad news that our friend and colleague, Marilou Pia, has passed away. Marilou joined SBOP in January 2019 and has touched countless lives, she led with compassion, kindness, and professionalism in all that she did, and will be dearly missed by us all.

Over the past week many of you have been coming together to talk about your fond memories of Marilou, and the incredible impact she had; we would love to share these memories and kind words with Marilou’s family, and have created a virtual condolence book for you to share your memories or words of sympathy.

Dear Marilou, I only had the privilege of meeting and working with you once. I was struck by your warmth, positivity and calmness. You were such a talented individual and we are all the poorer for your passing. I am so grateful for the time we had with you on the trip we made to Cebu in November2023. Thank you for everything you did for us to make our visit such an informative and enjoyable experience. You will be much missed and my thoughts are with your family, friends and the SBOP team….

Malou was my friend. Over the past 6 years we talked nearly every day and I miss our ongoing conversation. I miss her warmth, humour and advice and every day I think of things I want to say to her, ask her and share with her. But I will mostly remember the adventures we had and the effect that she had on the people we worked with, especially those we looked to serve. Being Malous friend was a real honour and Im hugely grateful to have known her and learned from her. She was loved, she is missed and she made a difference. …

Marilou leaves a huge legacy in her work, helping those affected by disasters in the Philippines and through her foundation. Marilou will be sorely missed by her teammates, both local and international. Sending condolences to her family, friends and colleagues, with love from us all at ShelterBox Australia. 💚 …

Marilou’s work was an inspiration to several generations of ShelterBox humanitarians (among them, me) and she made, without any doubt, the most substantial contribution to the living conditions of several thousand people who had experienced natural disasters in both the Philippines and elsewhere.  I remain in awe at her professionalism, knowledge and efficiency, and know that both she and her leadership will be much missed.  Requiem aeternam….

Marilou, It was a privilege working with you and learning from you.  You have been so central to the success of SBOP, and your drive and passion have helped it grow.  It’s hard to imagine you won’t be there for our next board meeting. We will miss you. Rest in peace knowing you made the world a better place for so many….

Marilou. I can’t believe you are gone having just spoken to you a few weeks ago. I remember you coming to the UK in 2019 to go through our basic deployment training course and it snowed….I will always remember how you and Rose looked when we showed you the tents you’d have to sleep in! I truly hope you are at peace, Marilou.  I hope your kind and generous soul finds rest after a lifetime of serving others <3 …
