In Loving Memory of

Kim

Kim Negus

Remembering Kim who brought us all so much fun and laughter…

Our dear friend DC Kim Negus passed away on Friday (February 10th) after a long and brave battle with cancer.

Many of you will know Kim and many will have worked with her throughout her 21 years of service.  She joined the City of London Police on 28th January 2002 and started on ‘D’ group at Snow Hill and spent many years in the Public Protection Unit.  Kim achieved so much in her career including being a sexual offences investigation trained officer (SOIT), a family Liaison officer (FLO), and was deployed on the Grenfell fire tragedy.

Most recently, Kim worked in IFED where she was a hugely valued investigator and larger-than-life character for over six years.  She was recently the officer in charge of a successful life insurance fraud case, which resulted in a three-year custodial sentence for the defendant and she received the National Lead Force quarterly star award for her fine investigation.

As a force, we share our condolences with Kim’s family and friends at this difficult time.

My first memory of you was hearing your infectious laugh in the corridor at Snow Hill Police Station. Then greeting you and your intake on the tutor unit.  From that day onwards I spent some great times with you, on and off duty, more often than not laughing hysterically at the situations we found ourselves in.  Particularly when we joined the cycle squad and went “off beat” beyond the square mile.  Forever will remain with me, your voice over the radio one day, the immortal line,”CP he’s just stolen 10 grand!”   kim, sometimes in our lives, people create positive ripples that last long after they are physically no longer present. And thats how I feel about you. You’ll never get old, you’ll always be how I remember you, the laugh, the smile.  Thank you for the gifts of some wonderful life experiences shared with you in the City Police.  You were, you are, such a special person to have had in my life. Thank you. May you rest in peace until we meet again in a better place.   …

Dear Kim, I first met you when I had the pleasure of travelling upto Manchester with you to that FLO conference. We talked non-stop and your warm and kind nature made me feel at ease and you certainly made me laugh! You always had a big smile and made the time to say hello whenever I saw you after that. You are such an inspiration and will never be forgotten. Rest in peace. Love Max xx …

Kim, I first met you on joining the City PPU in January 2018.  Although you were no longer posted there you were still part of the “family” and welcomed me in after a night out drinking where my over indulgence of Rose wine gave me the nickname of “Rosie”, which stuck thereafter!  I will always remember you looking absolutely stunning in that dress at the Force Awards you literally shone! I know you will be sorely missed by all that knew you..Rest in Peace lovely Kim xxx …

Dear Kim, Wow, did you scare me when we first met……..I’d joined PPU, and you quickly put me in my place! After a few months of settling in, you shared your amazing victim skills and brilliant work ethic with me. I learnt so much from you. You would always go the extra mile for a job, always willing to give advice and help anyone who asked. I’ll never forget when the girls visited Whitstable, you missed the train getting a coffee, I had to collect you from a different station and then you told me off!!! However, I think my favourite memory is of the force awards, you looked stunning, and we had a hilarious time with Deborah. If you know, you know!!! The world is a less colourful place without you. Rest in Peace. Syd xxx …

Kim. Kimbo. We first met when I started in the PPU, and I sat opposite you at your desk. You wouldn’t even look at me for the first  few weeks! When you finally decided I was alright you became my biggest champion, mentoring me in all things PPU. You were amazing with victims and could put the most nervous and traumatised at ease. I learnt a lot from you.   If you were lucky enough to be loved by Kim you knew about it! She was loud, brash and wonderfully loyal. Kim was devoted to her family, including her non-human members, and her friends. I can’t believe you are not here anymore. But when I think of you I can’t help but smile – all I see is you skipping out of the office yelling ‘Toodlepip chums!’ at 4 on the dot!  Lots of love Siany xx (you were the only one allowed to call me that!) …

Dear Kim, You were a great investigator and more importantly a larger-than-life character in the our IFED team – fierce but compassionate, everyone who worked with you will miss you so very much. I remember when I had to cancel our Christmas party due to Covid.  Despite being ill (that was never going to stop you going to the party) you were absolutely furious with me, demanding to know why it was cancelled and letting me know in no uncertain terms what you thought of the decision! That’s how i’ll remember you: Fun, straight-talking, and someone I’d always want on my side. Rest in peace. Tom …

Dearest Kimbo  I still can’t get my head round that fact that you are gone and I won’t bump in to you…..I had the pleasure of working in an amazing PPU team with you, and still remember my first few days when I was completely intimidated by you even though I was your boss! I soon realised that you were the heartbeat of PPU, and looked forward to your daily debriefs of the night before, or weekend activtities and our unusual disection of whatever job had come in! I will be forever jealous of your ability to absolutely rock any hair do, colour or outfit and will always remember your infectious laugh and smile. I know Mouse will be waiting for you, rest in peace Kimbo x x x  …

I first met Kim when I joined D Group at Snow Hill in 2002.  We instantly became great friends and on duty we went everywhere together.   One of my funniest memories of her was when she unknowingly dropped her warrant card down the toilet at Snow Hill then proceeded to wee on it.  The laughter and giggling will always remain with me.  In typical Kim style, she couldn’t talk for laughing along with a few expletives, when she realised she needed to get a replacement warrant card holder and had to explain what had happened to the current one. I have never heard a bad word said about Kim and those who knew her and worked with her will no doubt have lasting memories of such a kind, infectious, funny and hard working character that was Kim.   When Kim joined the CP4 cycle squad, she talked me into doing the London – Brighton cycle ride with her and rest of the cycle team.  Well no word of a lie, we had all weathers that day.  The sunshine kept us going through the gruelling ride but when it rained and hailstones fell, she was not a happy bunny and as …

To Kim, my beautiful, funny, crazy work Mumma! I still remember coming into PPU as a 24 year old girl, not knowing anyone and never having worked with the police before.. Saj invited me to the Christmas party that week as someone had dropped out. You weren’t particularly impressed by this, I later found out, as I was not yet in the circle of trust! I came along, completely unaware, but after a few too many… we were best mates and I was well and truly in the circle. We have so many funny memories of our time in PPU, we were such a close unit and we got each other through some difficult times. I really valued our special friendship, as you called me your work daughter and you were my work Mumma. You looked out for me and offered support during a tricky time in my life, took me out into the sofa area and gave me a shoulder to cry on and a good talking to! I will forever be grateful for having you in my life and that you allowed me into the circle. You were the life and soul of the party and didn’t …
