Hi Joseph,I have just heard the very sad news of your father’s passing.Your dad was an amazing human being and doctor and certainly a role model for me. I had a lot of respect for him. Hi Joseph. I was catching up with John Nicholls the other day and I was sorry to hear that your father passed away recently. I hope this text is not intrusive but I just wanted to offer my condolences. I never had the privilege of meeting your father but heard by reputation that he was an exceptional and dedicated GP and very much loved by his patients. An exceptional role model to all, especially the people of the UK and Kerala. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take care and speak soon, Matt…

Hi Joe,So sorry to hear about Dad.My deepest sympathy to you, mum, Leanne, Paul, Claire and all the family.Dad was a lovely caring very thoughtful and extremely hard working man, my memories of him go back many years, right back to the mid- eighties when he opened the nursing home in Horden and I was going in to see the residents. Remember that beautiful big car he had, everybody in Peterlee used to stop and look as he drove past.I was lucky enough to walk into the dental surgery at Easington Lane one day last year and he was in the waiting room with Leanne so had a chance to have a chat with him and I was pleased I met him then.So sad for what will be a huge loss Joe, my kindest regards to everyone….

Doctor Chandy   Although i know you are in Heaven now i am sending this to thank you for all the hard work you put in to  helping people who suffer with a B12 Deficiency. I was diagnosed September last year with a B12 Deficency and at the biginning of this year with Pernicious Anemia also. Reading your stuff and watching you speak on these deficienies has helped me a lot. You were truly sent by God down to earth for this purpose i only wish my GP was as understanding as you were. May you rest in Heavenly Peace and may your work continue through your family.   My sincere condolences to the Chandy family. May God bless you all   Linda from Ireland…

Dr Chandy may have saved my life. And I feel it’s an honour and privilege to thank him here. I came to know of Dr Chandy later in his life but at a critical time in my life. I had just experienced 2 years of various health complaints that began with gastrointestinal problems followed by investigations for bowel cancer and the removal of polyps. I lost my father to bowel cancer aged 12, when he was 50, and I had just turned 40. I needed further operations during the pandemic for a concurrent thyroid and saliva gland removal and then a few months later became severely B12 deficient. This was during the third lockdown in 2021. My thinking was so disorientated that I managed to speak to a GP but it was too late – I could not function nor wait any longer for treatment. I began to self treat and then realised the grave error I’d made. Then I came across Dr Chandy. I emailed and I did not expect to hear back, but I did.  Dr Chandy extended the deepest sympathies for my struggles. He was kind, understanding, and helpful, and gave me hope when I felt I…

The world has lost one of the best Doctors in the world. You gave yourself, your time & caring understanding to all those that approached you, without thinking, you done what was right, right for the patient. It did land you in hot water, you did pay a small price but you still done the right thing & that’s what you swore to do when you took the oath. Between yourself & your buddy Hugo Minney you wrote a wonderful book to yet again, help patients find a way to good health. No one will ever replace you. You leave such a wonderful legacy behind for all your family to be proud of. The world of Vitamin B12, such a controversial subject & will remain that way for many generations to come. You made it all sound so simple. Your work is done & so you can now rest in peace. Michelle….

Dr Chandy, Martyn Hooper and Sally Pacholok are the superheroes of healthcare, without whom I do not know where I would be. I was misdiagnosed for pernicious anaemia for two years and on diagnosis my serum B12 was “normal” even though I had macrocytosis.  It was Martyn who told me I needed loading doses, but it was Dr Chandy’s charity where I learnt so much. Eventually I managed to get 8 vials of hydroxocobalamin a month on prescription and learned to self-inject intramuscularly every three days. It was only one nurse at the practice I was with at the time who helped me to learn how to do my injections but it was Dr Chandy’s advice, courage and his standing as a GP that gave me the courage and belief.  I still do not get any needles, syringes or sublingual methylcobalamin on prescription and have to source my own, but I lead a fairly normal life thanks to Dr Chandy et al.  Thank you sir, rest in peace knowing that you were the kind, caring and proper doctor that every human being on this planet should have. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. With the science for…

I am very saddened to learn of Dr. Chandy’s passing.  I didn’t discover Dr. Chandy’s incredible work with B12 until 2016 which was 19 years after I first became ill.  A very dear friend kindly drove me from North Yorkshire to one of the monthly meetings at Horden where I was so fortunate to meet Dr. Chandy.  I will always be indebted to him for giving me answers and reasons and enabling me to get my life back.  He was such a kind and generous hearted man, sometimes spending a couple of hours on the telephone with me when I lived in Essex and unable to travel to Horden.  I share Dr. Chandy’s deep faith and we had many very deep and soulful discussions around this which I treasure.  I was so grateful for the time Dr. Chandy spent with my daughter and I over lunch at his house and discussing his book, which was still covering his pool at that time!  Dr Chandy was a truly unique man, utterly dedicated to helping people with B12 deficiency and his faith and I thank God for him.  He will be so much missed.  …

What a Dr you have been, so many people you have helped in so many ways! There will never be another Dr like you. You always went above and beyond for everyone, you’ve been a shining star and now you’ll be shining down on all the lives you’ve touched with your kindness, love & support. It was safe to say you did have a cheeky naughty side which I’m sure everyone knew you had, but like a true professional you kept it hidden. My family like so many others received so much support in many ways from you as our Dr, that community spirit you brought into how the surgery ran was amazing. No matter where you are and what you’re doing you’ll always be remembered and forever spoken of. You will be missed by everyone. A man who put others needs/wants before his own. a few words to describe what a wonderful person you are: Kind Thoughtful Cheeky Family Man Inspirational Dedicated  Humble Pillar of the community   …

Dr Oliver Barnsley

More than 10years ago Dr Chandy interviewed me for my first job as a newly qualified GP. I joined the (then Shinwell) family and the rest is history. We worked together for many years and he was an important part of my life. He was almost always calm, patient and almost always seemed to be a good mood. He had the energy and vigour of a man 20years younger and often wondered if he would run forever fueled by b12 –  but when he finally retired he had certainly earnt it. He always worked hard, always did his fair share of the work and often half of everyone else’s! I recently looked over photos of him holding my babies (now aged 5 and 12!) and felt so many emotions I really don’t know what to say –  but above all a profound fondness for him outweighed the sadness of his passing. He will be missed. Dr Oliver Barnsley…
