Absolutely devastated and heartbroken. No one will ever make me laugh the way that Siggy did. Even the most arduous, mundane task was a joy when he was around. Rest in peace you Legend….

I had long been aware that Jonny Sigs was held in high esteem by colleagues, clients and associates but until his recent tragic loss I hadn’t realised just how much respect and affection or how many shared this view. He was a really rare and special colleague, trusted by clients and absolutely respected by his colleagues and team. Always quietly spoken, he nevertheless, benefitted from a natural gravitas and his deliberations were usually delivered with considerable wit. I have never enjoyed being told “no” so much as it usually involved me desperately trying to suppress my laughter whilst feigning indignation at his conclusions. Our friends in Parliament have shared a lovely story around HM Queen Elizabeth’s Lying In State when amidst all of the hullaballoo, they observed Sigs and his team sitting on a gate in the middle of it all calmness personified and in complete control of what we needed to deliver. That memory takes me back to an even earlier one when we were expected to support the Opening Ceremony of the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games with 130 crew. Sigs had been rapidly elevated to lead this project having only been with the company for a year….

I have written and rewritten this so many times I have lost count….it dosn’t do him justice, it isn’t enough….. It’s heartbreaking, unfair, just plain wrong, some of my first reactions, certainly not my last, as I heard about my very good friend and colleague Sigs. I have known Jon since 2002 and the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, I recall a room full of people looking to sign up as crew for the games when this small team of people entered, at the back of the line was Sigs, always remember his trainers been undone, its funny what sticks in your mind, at the time I didnt know he would turn out to be one of my very best friends, you couldn’t help but like the guy.     There are many things that stick in your mind about Sigs, his sense of humour, his dedication, his loyalty, I could go on, but one thing he did seem obsessed with was speed, if it had wheels he wanted to know how quick it would go…..even as early as the games he would race a gator round the bone yard as quickly as possible coming to a halt in what seemed…

Almost unbelieveble to learn of Sig’s passing, very sad and upsetting news. What a true legend of a man he was, a gentleman, a fantastic person, a dedicate honourable man who everyone loved and many looked up to. You will be incredbly missed my old friend, my thoughts and condolences are with your loving family. We will never forget you Sigs, in our hearts and thoughts forever!…

This is such a sad and shocking loss. I didn’t have the privilege of working alongside Sigs as long as some but from the first day he was welcoming and supportive. In an industry frequently defined by chaos, Sigs kept us all calm and lead with clear direction & good humour. If we ever needed answers or someone to fight our corner, Sigs was always there. (He was also always there to tell us when we’d gone wrong but the fact that he had do that less over the years reflects better on him than us!). He showed how a boss becomes a leader.    Thank you Sigs not only for setting the standards we should all be aiming but for doing it with a smile. As a mentor and as a mate, we’ll miss you. …

It is very hard to find the right words, when the circumstances are so sad, unfair and devastating.   Sigs gave a chance to lead the Scotland Region for Gallowglass early on in my career, when he really did not need to. Despite it being a stressful, utterly chaotic and mad year, I have nothing but fond memories of that period. This is mainly due to Sigs’ unwavering support, relaxed approach (while taking no prisoners!) and wicked sense of humour. He acted as mentor, let me vent when needed, and offered help, support, guidance and friendship. I would not have made it through this period without him, and can simply not thank him enough.   I have many brilliant memories of him, but one keeps coming back to me the last few weeks. Before I started in the management team, I spent a particularly muddy wet day building the fence in Glastonbury. The farmers decided to ‘manure’ the stretch we were building on that day.  My footwear wasn’t particularly suitable any more, which he noticed. We didn’t know each other particularly well at this point, but he literally gave me the boots of his feet and told me to…

A truly honourable man and the best friend you could hope to have in your corner. There are so many good and challenging times we went through together as a team. It still hasn’t registered that we won’t be able to have those chats and laughs anymore. You will be missed mate. RIP….
