The day Jonathan first came to St Silas before taking up his new position as deputy head there was a parent pupil event in full swing in the school hall. He was introduced to us all, this eager young teacher from Yorkshire! He chatted for a while. But it wasn’t long before jacket off, he picked up a brush and got stuck in helping to clean up the debris. This was so typical of the Jonathan we would come to know and love.  Jonathan was determined from the outset to make school the very best it could be for all our children, especially those who were struggling. He was an inspirational leader. He had such vision and determination. He could see what was needed and worked tirelessly to make change and progress happen.  Working with Jonathan at St Silas was without doubt the most rewarding period of my teaching career. Feeling valued, being part of a dynamic ambitious team and always encouraged and supported- all this came from him. Whatever the pressures he was under Jonathan made time for his staff, for pupils and parents. He was so kind and considerate. On dark days he would come flying into the…

It was an absolute honour to work with Jonathan.  He was upbeat and positive about every situation, even the most challenging ones that required tricky conversations.  It was evident that everyone he spoke to felt important, listened to and understood.  His drive and enthusiam were infectious.  He was a straight forward guy and a powerful force for good.  I miss our chats!  My thoughts are with Jonathan’s family.  …

Jonathan you were always so positive and dedicated to improving the lives of children.  We had so many conversations about the children of Liverpool and making their life chances better. You always made me laugh  I loved working with you from the very first day in Liverpool to the last you did whatever we asked and changed lives.  The things I remember from your passion, dedication and the ever constant phone calls will last forever. You were truly inspirational from that first day in St Silas to NPQEL to the teaching school and your illness. There were so many laughs, empathy and sharing I can’t believe you are gone.  Kim, Ollie, Tabitha and the rest of the family your dad was truly a hero in every sense of the word.  You will never know the live he changed for the better we miss him so much …

The first time Jonathan walked into the office at Croxteth I knew he was a good soul. His sincerity out shone him. I laugh now when I’d agreed to do a podcast with Jonathan but after I’d agreed I kind of got stage fright and even went as far as to ignore his emails (true story). Until Lottie came out on to the school yard to find me, but for me Jonathan true selflessness showed when just before Christmas I lost my Nephew and Jonathan being Jonathan going through his own really tough time sent me a message to say he was thinking about me and my family. I was blown away as he was himself going through his own battle and Jonathan and his family were actually in my prayers. Rest in peace Jonathan keep looking down on your family as I’m sure you will. I am really going to miss you. love Kelly xx…

Dear Kim and family, It has been an honour to know and work with Jonathan. In all our conversations, Jonathan showed total commitment to developing a MAT that has children at the centre.  Jonathan was a major reason why we selected Rainbow for Cowley.  The sincerity and passion were clear when he described Rainbow – truly inspirational; an organisation where children and staff are valued.  True commitment was evident as he continued to work and drive forward the MAT throughout his treatment.  During our conversations at this difficult time, his concern was always for others. In Jonathan, our profession has been blessed.  In my long career, I can confidently say Jonathan stands out as a remarkable, genuine, personable, and superb leader. Words fail to describe the impact Jonathan has had on the people he met. People often talk about legacy; however, Jonathan has left a mark very few could match.  A legacy in Rainbow which has the hallmark of Jonathan and the legacy of a wonderful loving family. God Bless Cameron…

Jonathan’s passing is such a sad and significant loss for us all and incredibly so for the world of education. He was a true trailblazer, breaking barriers in education in so many ways. Despite his passing we all know we will keep his spirit alive in our hearts and it’s also firmly imprinted in the hearts of so many young people, the lives of whom he had a wonderful impact on. Jonathan showed such consistent  determination, perseverance, and resilience. His strength to ensure the very best for young people was an inspiration to us all. Even in the face of adversity he had the amazing ability to remain positive, hopeful and focussed on his goal, to achieve the very best for all the many children in his care. My dear friend Jonathan, you are so greatly missed but the impact of your work and your kind and loving heart live on through every life you touched. I will never go a day without appreciating and being motivated by the positivity you shared. Sending so much love to Kim and the family xxx…

I still rememeber the first time I met you 8years ago during my first interview and how sharades was a part of the interview process at that time. I will never forget how you added in a roll over for me to do in the small office just to see how confident and far I would go. It was then I knew you were the type of leader I wanted to work under. You built my confidence from the start and our weekly catch ups and chats in my first year helped me become the teacher I am today. I feel lucky to work in a place rooted in your journey and legacy. You were an inspirational leader and you are the definition of the Rainbow. Your legacy will live on in every person, child and parent you have met. Thank you for eveything!  Sending lots of love to Johnathan’s Family xx  Goodnight, rest in peace Johnathan xx   …

Jonathan was an amazing man and an inspirational education leader. He always thought of others before himself.  I was privileged to work with him in school governance from the start of his own school becoming an academy. He took this leap in order to support Heygreen, where I was a governor, which proved highly successful. He took Heygreen from rock bottom to a place where the sky was the limit. For me, he was a joy to work with, always smiling, positive, energetic and generous of his time.   He gave of his time to us all, even from his hospital bed. He transformed the schools he touched; opening the doors to success for both pupils and staff in each school he brought under the Rainbow Educational Trust umbrella. He was brimming with ideas and actions –  he wasn’t just a man of words – to give opportunities for everyone to succeed.  He was full of enthusiasm and was ground breaking in his approach to education where pupils and staff alike could thrive.  I hope he knew how much he was valued. …
