In Loving Memory of

Jerry Davies

Jerry Davies was a remarkable man whose passion, talent and warmth left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. As Global Food and Beverage Director for SSP Group, Jerry’s unparalleled love for food was deeply inspiring and evident in every aspect of his work.

He honed his craft in Michelin-starred restaurants, prestigious hotels and SSP establishments across the globe, consistently raising the bar and setting new standards for the industry. Wherever he went, Jerry added value with his keen eye for detail, unmatched culinary expertise and extraordinary ability to connect with people.

As we come together to remember Jerry, we celebrate his incredible life and enduring legacy. His passion for hospitality, his ability to bring people together and his unwavering kindness will forever live on in our hearts and memories. Please leave a message in this condolence book to honour Jerry and the extraordinary impact he had on all of us.

I had the pleasure of working in the same office as Jerry for 10 years, he always had a smile and often a funny story to tell. We’d often talk about work, life, family, holidays and many other things. He’d often talk about his family with pride and love. Thank you Jerry for the talks, advice and just being a legend. May you Rest In Peace….

During my time with SSP I’ve had many a positive interactions with Jerry, even if it was to talk about my closet dream of getting in to cake making and patisserie – he happily offered to put me in touch with one of his contacts in the culinary world. Even in Jerry’s last days, his humour remained in and amongst him wanting to make sure everything was in order for Jeanette and the family and what a lovely family they are. I know it’s been super tough for all of you and my thoughts continue to be with you at this difficult time….

Jerry was a joy to work with in the time that I had the privilege to know him at SSP. We visited many restaurants together in various countries and he always made the most significant impact. An impact with everyone from the KP to the MD and always on a personal level. Even the more challenging problems were tackled with good humour and often a sense of mischievousness that got to the heart of the matter in hand. As with many others, he became a friend. Countless conversations about gin, golf and his garden. But always his beloved family was the centre of gravity for Jerry. He is very much missed….

I only knew Jerry for a short time but it became clear very quickly how adored and respected he was by everyone at SSP. Superstar status, really. He was an integral part of our sustainability team too. He has such enthusiasm for creating healthier and more sustainable menus for people. Jerry not only challenged us and SSP with his innovative ideas but also tested them rigorously and travelled the world to bring them to life. This included things like devising the ‘Sustainable Chefs Challenge’ for the annual Gala Ball, trials to remove plastic inserts in granola & yoghurt bowls, and the big one, inspiring the company to tackle our carbon emissions through food by measuring and reducing the environmental impact of our recipes! He has a huge legacy here and we will continue his work. His leadership was truly invaluable, and his absence has left a profound void in our team. I hope he knew how much we appreciated him. …

I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of my very good friend Jerry David. Unfortunately, a very good friend passed away, who always offered us his knowledge and help in whatever we asked of him. I have spent many beautiful moments with David and he will forever remain in my heart and thought. I wish his family courage and strength in this time of mourning….

I remember when I first joined SSP, and Sukh proudly announced that we had a chef on the team. I was so excited to meet you, and when I did, I was blown away by your humility—especially when I admitted I wasn’t much of a food person.   As we got to know each other, our interactions were filled with witty, sarcastic banter. From your digs about me being South African to your endless stream of hilarious insults, you always knew how to make me laugh.    I’ll never forget you greeting me with a cheeky “Good evening” upon arriving in the office slightly later than you felt I should have arrived or our running joke about your 3:30pm office departures because, as you’d say, you were now “old” and it was time to go home.   I’ll always remember you popping over to my desk for an afternoon snack, often turning your nose up at what was on offer —unless it met your standards. Then, of course, you’d snap a photo and add it to the list for Jeanette to buy.   In the short time we worked together, I saw how you had earned the admiration and…

Jerry was a fantastic chef and a joy to be around. I always enjoyed our catchups and learnt so much from him. His passion for sustainability was inspiring, and he leaves an important legacy. My fondest memory of Jerry is of our trip to Hong Kong, where I heard all about his amazing career and travels – from island life to SSP. He spent his days lost in the kitchens building relationships and fixing problems like no one else could, and his evenings with good food and a nice gin. My heartfelt condolances to his family, he will be missed by many….

Jerry…  I’ve had the pleasure of working with you for the past 10 years. Thank you for the amazing memories, support & guidence. In true chef style you bought the knowledge, banter, wit & laughs. Which I will forever be thankful for.  Doesn’t feel real that you won’t be popping your head into the kitchen to have a quick chat which always turned into lengthy discussion’s about what we had been eating in restaurants, great holiday deals we’d seen & most importantly our families.  Sending my heartfelt condolences to Jeanette, Holly, Owen & the rest of your family.  Rest well chef. Jerry Each time I knew you were coming to Sweden, I felt a sense of joy, that we will catch up again, exchange a bit of gossip and discuss the important things in life, family, sport and SSP!! On each PLG trip you were a magnet for everyone, you held court with humour, laughter and some fanstic insights throughout the the 2/3 days we were all together. These trips hold some of my fondest memories while working at SSP. Thank you for your support, I knew I could count on you to listen and give me some great advice both about living in another country, the opportunities it can give and of course how we could better our processes here in Sweden.  I will miss your head popping round my door saying you have arrived and I will remember with fondness our last mass sandwich tasting session!! Thanks Jerry! Matt        …

I didn’t work with very Jerry often, although we did get to be part of the same team when we were entering Brazil for the first time. What really sticks with me was his passion – whether it was food, kitchens, or equipment, he was always so enthusiastic & had so much time for everyone. And when we did bump into each other in the office he was always smiling and always ready to tell me about his latest kitchen creation or explaining how something worked. His smile and warmth were contagious, and it was so good to meet someone who brought so much passion to their daily life. He’s going to be missed by everyone at SSP for sure & sending all my thoughts and support to his family….

To the family of Jerry I only knew Jerry for a couple of years not as well or as long as I would of liked. Everytime we spoke, he always came across as a genuine and kind person. I will also remember everytime I saw him he was always happy and smiling and willing to share a few minutes if I ever had a querry on food issues. It would of been a real honour to get to know Jerry outside of work and I can only imagine what his loss has done to you all, as i only know he has left a huge hole in my life.        …
