Sorry I am so late at posting this. But I wish to express my sadness at the passing of a person who was a larger than life character. I first meet Jamesy at Magee University in Derry. The man was great craic and his love for Huring and the creation of the Magee team was amazing and infectious. He was a great friend and person. Always the first to help and the first to have a pint. I will miss him. Rest in peace…

Mr Mc.Veigh, you will be sorely missed. You taught me so much in school at Archbishop Ilsley, and you were the most supportive and funny form tutor a kid could ask for. This news has honestly broken my heart. Rest easy Mr. McVeigh, you meant so much to so many people. Especially our form group (your first and only form!) it’s an honour to have known you and be taught by you. Forver missed and always in our hearts. RIP Mr.McVeigh ❤️…

JAMES McVEIGH — or fondly known as ‘Jim, Jimbo and McVeigh’. James joined Manor High School, Wednesbury in the West Midlands in July 2005. He had been recruited by Sandwell LEA to teach Humanities and English. From the first time we met him, in Belfast, we knew that he was going to be a true ‘Manor’ stalwart; willing to give his all for those around him. James was committed from day one. He displayed a real love of teaching and a love of the pupils, building great relationships with pupils and staff alike. He was kind natured, dedicated to being the best he could be and providing the best experience for his pupils – both in and outside of the classroom. Nothing was too much trouble and he quickly became a valued member of staff and a popular teacher. James always wanted to learn from more experienced colleagues and take advice on how to approach situations and the challenges of teaching in a socially deprived area of Wednesbury. As a colleague, he was always willing to ‘go the extra mile’. He was the first to join in extra-curricular trips and experiences. He set up a Rugby team which was a…

I was very shocked to receive the sad news of James’ passing over the Christmas period. He was a character and a half who wore his GAA heart on his sleeve. I had a great time reffing James’ teams in Warwickshire (Erin Go Bragh and James Connollys) as well the annual British University tournament (with Aston Uni) during the 2007-2009 seasons – win lose or draw – he would always have the craic with you after each game. RIP James  …

Communities near and far have lost a great friend, worker and advocate of all that is GAA. James was part of the panel that took my son Hugh for the U14 Antrim football development squad. Always there, always helping, always offering one to one advice, always picking up the bibs, the balls that are left behind. He gathered the boys round 1 time and asked who had their gumshields; very few hands went up. He proceeded to take his false teeth out and delcare ‘this is what happens when you don’t wear a gumshield to training!”. Still smiling. Hugh had just finished playing a game of hurling and James passed him and smiled “I’m glad to see you’re playing a proper sport now!” Rest in Peace James. You made a difference….

James when your mother and father decided to move back to Randalstown the home of your grandfather and great grandfather – The Skipper – you improved the club more than anyone could have imagined. You brought your great enthusiasm for all things gaelic, your ability to coach, your positive approach to everything the club was involved in along with the encouragement you gave to everyone you came into contact with. What you gave us will never be forgotten James. It has been a great pleasure to have had you as a friend.  God bless you. Rest in Peace.   …

James We watched our daughter (trouble number 1 as you called her) grow a deep love for sport with you as her coach. You believed in every one of those kids and they knew it. You put so much time into organising blitzes for them and those experiences will stay with those kids forever. From the bottom of our hearts. Thank you. RIP James….

It is hard to believe that when I go to Tir Na Nog you won’t be there. I always loved training with you in football and getting taught new skills by you, you were the best coach and the nicest person. I will always remember you and miss you greatly. Rest in peace James  Ellie McGeehan   …

Still in shock following James’ passing, very difficult to find the words that would do James justice. James was a colleague of mine at Ulster GAA and we worked together with Antrim u14 Development squad the last 2 years. We developed a close friendship that I am forever grateful for. James taught me a lot in terms of coaching and I will always treasure our memories together. I always looked forward to meeting with James as you were guaranteed a good story, a rant (lol) and plenty laughs. Will miss his infectious smile and laugh and deeply saddened by his passing. RIP James, always in my thoughts and prayers. …

James, I still can’t process the news that we all got on Boxing Day morning.  You will be massively missed around whitehill and that hole will never be filled. It’s hard to believe that the next time I drive through the gates of the club for training or a match that I won’t see your face!  You were taken far too soon from us!  Rest Easy James! 💙💙…

In life you meet a lot of people but only a few of them will be big characters. James was one of them big characters. The way he could relate to people was amazing to watch and encounter. He was a beacon of support, help, encouragement and knowledge as well as having a great sense of humour.  He lit up a room every time he entered and then took that light and shone it on people he felt needed it more.  The stories James told and the countless craic had after training sessions will never be forgotten. His memory will live on through those that he has inspired.  Rest easy James. …

I have still not come to terms with your passing and don’t believe I ever will. You were a major character about the club and had a massive effect on me as a player. You were more than just a coach we seen you as a friend, always smiling and laughing, I have never had a negative encounter with James. coming off the pitch and meeting you at the gate, win or lose you knew how to keep my head high and you will be missed greatly by me and everyone else at the club.  thank you for everything I wouldn’t be the man I am today without you….
