James was a colleague who became a deep personal friend. I first met James over 12 years ago when we both worked at Deloitte. During this time James was one of the leaders of our team and both my line manager and career mentor. James always led the team with kindness and compassion while holding himself and our team to high standards. He invested a lot of time with me providing career advice and mentorship that helped me progress and deepened our personal bond. He was also a lot of fun to be around, I remember a night out in Macau that finished with a helicopter ride!  I worked with James after I left Deloitte and hugely valued the support and partnership with him during this period. We had difficult times on an immensely challenging project, but our friendship deepened as a result. I was pleased to see him in London in April this year and was deeply impressed with the grace and dignity with which he faced his circumstances as well as the commitment he had to his family.  James’s career accomplishments were impressive, but I will remember him for his personality. He was funny, loved people, was…

I met James when he took over the project leadership role during a challenging period. His unavering dedictation and inspiring leadership navigate us through the storm and brought many successes afterward. In times of challenge, he illuminated our path with wisodm and resilience. His vision propoelled our project forward, and his discpline on programme management tidy up the loose end to integrate every team members as a team. His leadership wasn’t just about work; it was like having a cool guide through the project chaos. I will miss his jokes, his advice, and the way he made tough days better. Thinking of his family right now and hoping they will find comfort in knowing how much he meant to all of us….

When I met James for the first time I was already aware of his illness and approached him  to say that I would obviously understand if he didn’t want to work any more.  He told me that work was important to him and that it took his mind off thinking about the illness.   Over the coming months I came to understand what James meant.  He definitely brought his whole self to work, put everything into it and always wore a cheeky smile – particularly a few glasses into the 7.30pm evening calls! I was honoured to have known James for a short period of time and shared the laughs and of course the moments of real sadness when our colleague Marty passed away. He approached everything in the same way – moments of real focus and seriousness laced with that cheeky smile and an infectious laugh. The picture is from one of my favourite moments with James at the races over the summer.  Julie met James for the first and only time and commented what a lovely guy he was.  Who would have known that he was carrying the horrible illness with him every day.  He just soldiered…

James, It was such an honour to have worked with you.  We were in a difficult project situation back in 2018 and you came to our rescue.  I was deeply impressed by how you were able to quickly get on top of the situation and steered a group of Subject Matter Experts on responding to the crisis.  How you acted has since then become a role model for myself.  When I am in a difficult situation now, I would still ask myself what would James do.  Thank you for the great inspirations. I will always remember you, James.  Rest in peace. Ophelia …

Gutted to hear about the passing of James. He was always a gentleman and a pleasure to work with. Always made time for chit chat and jokes, no matter what pressure he was under! A kind hearted man who has gone too soon. My prayers are with his family and friends at this time….

James, Thank you on everything you had done to the IFRS17 project team in Hong Kong. Without you, we could not start the whole journey with this client. I am proud to let you know that we have completed the project mid this year. I learnt from you on how to lead , ask the right questions, keep the team calm under tough situation,  and give everyone (especially me four years ago) hope that we could handle the complex on this very challenging task and delivered successfully. We did it! RiP You will be missed !  …

I first met James in 2007 when he interviewed for a role in a new team I was building within Deloitte UK.  James was simply the perfect fit and he made an impact and a difference from day one; not just in his fabulous work but also with that quirky, intelligent, fun, kind and twinkly manner that characterised him so.  I was sad to see him move to Hong Kong, but glad to retain him as a global colleague and friend and we had occasions to collaborate and regularly meet numeorus times.  It was a pleasure, but no surprise, to see him rise to the higest ranks in our China business.  All of us who knew and worked with James at Deloitte were devastaed to hear of his illness and, of course the subsequent news of his passing.  Our thoughts are with his dear family, friends and colleagues who will all miss him greatly and we will remember him fondly and keep him in our hearts.  May his memory give comfort to those he left behind …

James was a gent. He was a pleasure to be around and to work with, had a great sense of humour and a disarming smile that made you smile, regardless of what he had just said. Far too young to go, may you rest in peace James! …

Although we worked together for a short period of time, I wil always remember James for smiling and having a laugh. We went to the races together and I saw him in his element! 🙂 You will be sorely missed! …

Though our time working together was brief in the grand scheme, I will carry with me a lifetime of memories of James’ laughter, carrying his laptop all over while still on video and, of course, his glass of red wine to end the day.  We worked on difficult things together, but James’ jovial approach often made everything seem less difficult.  James will be incredibly missed.  Sending my most heartfelt condolences to James’ family and friends during this difficult time. …
