In Memory of

Ian Findlay CBE

It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden death of our Chief Officer, Ian Findlay CBE, he collapsed and passed away very suddenly on Friday 5 March whilst out on his bike.

Ian was first and foremost a family man and our thoughts are with Ian’s wife Andrea, daughter Lianne, granddaughter Phoebe and the rest of his family at this saddest of times.

Ian was a lifelong outdoor enthusiast. His personal values of responsibility, respect, and care for each other and for our environment were evident to all that had the privilege to know and work with him. Ian will be terribly missed by Paths for All staff, trustees and everyone that came to know him. We are so grateful for his passion, kindness, and personal integrity.

We know there will be many people shocked and deeply saddened by this unexpected news.

Wherever you had the pleasure of knowing Ian from, through work or personal connections, please use this online book of condolence to leave expressions of sympathy and to share memories of Ian.

Thank you

So deeply sorry for his family, such sad news. He was a leading light in the third sector and his Paths for All family, and colleagues across other forums and networks who valued him immensely, will miss him terribly….

I’ve only known Ian for a couple of years as a fellow Board member of ACOSVO.  In that short time, he demonstrated to me an immense capacity for both warmth and wisdom. I found him immensely thoughtful – often the one to ask the deeper questions, considerate of the feelings of others and true to his values.  He was the very best of people and leaders.  My condolences to his family and colleagues….

This is such tragic news for family, friends, colleagues and the wider environmental community in Scotland. Ian will be greatly missed as an inspirational leader; a wise and trusted colleague and a warm and sincere friend.  My thoughts are with Ian’s family and with his Paths for All ‘family’ at this sad time….

Ian was one of life’s most wonderful human beings and I’m honoured I had the privilege to work with him. In the 6 years I was with PFA, Ian’s door was always open, no matter what he was always there, he was the heart and soul of the place and it just won’t be the same without him. I only ever seen Ian happy, something rare with someone with such huge responsibility on his shoulder. I’m genuinely heartbroken. Thinking of his 3 girls and the rest of his family. Sweet dreams Ian xxx…
