Book of Remembrance of

Gregory De La Peña-Hall

We have lost my rock and best friend – our lovely Greg.

Greg passed away on Sunday 5th June 2022 after his brave and courageous journey with cancer.  Selfless and always positive, he filled our lives with happiness and laughter. Greg inspired us all and through his drive and determination, he leaves us with an amazing gift of a fairer and more inclusive world.

This book is a collection of our memories … memories we all have of Gregory as he touched our lives.  It is a place to share our memories and stories and a place we can all reflect in the time ahead.

While we knew Greg was nearing the end, nothing can prepare you for the death of your soul mate. Thank you for your love and prayers.

It’s deeply saddening that Gregory was taken so early and denied a long fulfilling life. However I think for the few years I knew him he made more than most of the time he had to develop his career, meet and marry a loving partner and champion the fight for equality and remove discrimination and fear within the catering and hospitality world and beyond. …

I first met Gregory when I joined the ED&I committee for BM and what struck me was his passion for inclusivity and patience with someone like me who was passionate but lacked direction, Gregory gave me a voice! I love Gregorys statement “To enable people to bring their whole selves to work” Gregory had a deep impact on my thought process over the last 18 months, I did not just admire but also respected him and his loss is deeply felt . My heart goes out to Joey and his whole family and hope these messages give them some comfort that Gregory lives through his legacy in the field of ED&I….

I am so lucky to have met such a wonderful, kind person as Gregory. I’m glad we had the chance to work together, from there I could really see the passion and vigor you had for everything he did. Gregory changed the way we all look at ED&I and for that, have made me and many others better people. Gone, but will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers go out to Joey and the rest of your family x…

Firstly Gregory, on behalf of the whole BM family thank you! Thank you for your energy, passion, support, positivity and frankly unquestionably being the smartest dressed person in the room – always! You should be so proud of all you achieved in the hospitality sector and particularly at bartlett mitchell, as an operator, a seller and most rewardingly driving our ED&I programme. You truly lived our values and gave so much of yourself in every situation. Your lasting legacy goes far beyond ED&I, every client, direct report and site team I’ve spoken to, all share stories of your infectious positivity and the personal impact you had on them as individuals. Know that the BM family is now a richer place to be, thanks to you being one of us. Thank you When calling our BM family & friends to share your tragic news, I’ve taken strength from your own bravery and positivity throughout your last years of battling. Whilst you would tolerate us having a period of mourning, you would also be saying get on with it and follow my instructions – and that we must add Equity to our ED&I strategy! Rest in peace my dear colleague and truly…

I’m leaving this message for you Joey and all the family and friends of Gregory.   I had some really lovely chats with Gregory during his time at bartlett mitchell both before his diagnosis and afterwards.  I loved his openess and his willingness to ask for help.  He was always so respectful and grateful when anyone did anything for him – no matter how big or small.  He had a lightness and positivity about him that was truly admirable and this carried on long after he knew he was very unwell.  I called him a few times during his treatment and always thought that he handled it so very brilliantly.  His attitude and positivity should have carried him through and I’m so sad to know that it was not to be.  If anyone deserved to recover and move on with his life Gregory did.  I so admire the person he was and the way he lived his life.  I think that all of us who knew him and spent time with him will have felt that our lives were enriched as a result.  Gregory wherever you are now I salute you for your bravery and your joyful take on…

Gregory was such a great influence in the BMfamily. He had still so much to give. I know everyone enjoyed their time with Gregory, i certainly know i did. We all had so much hope for a recovery, but sadly it wasn’t to be. Once we knew that it wasn’t to be, everyone could ready themselves for the worst, but we still couldn’t cope. A lovely person has been taken from us, and we are all very sad. Missed by all forever   Ian M…
