I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Prosper Chaki: a dear friend, a valued colleague, and a truly gentle soul whose kindness and warmth I will always remember. He had a rare way of making people feel heard, valued, and at ease. His humility, calm spirit, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing or working with him. Beyond his professional dedication, it was his compassion and genuine care for others that stood out most. His passing is a great loss, but his example of grace and humanity will continue to live on in our hearts and in the many lives he touched. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find comfort in the love and memories that surround them. With heartfelt sympathy,Bilali Kabula  …

I remember Prosper as an exceptionally generous, humble, and hard-working man, and these qualities were reflected in the legacy he built and the team he led. I hope you know that your impact will endure through the work you began, the colleagues you supported, and the belief you instilled that together we can make the world a healthier place. May time bring peace and comfort to your family. Thank you for the inspiration and for everything you shared with us.    …

What a loss! A man of great works that spoke for him. I heard the name before I even saw him. To the family of Dr Prosper, to the PAMCA family and to all friends and relatives, I pray may the Lord God comfort and guide us all in this time of deep sorrow and loss. May God provide for all the needs and strengthen us all to continue such a legacy and wonderful works as Dr Prosper did. May Your majesty and strength (Psalms 93:1) O Lord abound much more! …

It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I learned of the passing of Dr. Prosper Chaki. His loss is immeasurable to the malaria research and public health community, and profoundly personal to me. I had the privilege of working closely with Dr. Chaki as a friend, mentor, and trusted advisor. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the PAMCA Rwanda Chapter and was instrumental in the organization of several conferences on malaria control, including the PAMCA Conference. His vision, intellectual rigor, and unwavering commitment to malaria elimination inspired all who worked alongside him. Beyond his remarkable professional contributions, Dr. Chaki generously supported me in shaping my PhD journey. He believed in my initial idea on malaria elimination in the East African Community and guided me thoughtfully as it was refined to focus on Rwanda. His mentorship was marked by humility, kindness, and a genuine desire to see others grow. Dr. Prosper Chaki leaves behind a legacy of excellence, mentorship, and service that will continue to guide and motivate us. He will be deeply missed, but his impact will endure through the many lives he touched and the work he helped build. May Your Soul…

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Prosper Chaki. He served as the assessor of my MSc Public Health research proposal, a program jointly offered by Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology in collaboration with Ifakara Health Institute. During my oral proposal defence in November 2024, Dr. Chaki assessed my work with great professionalism and generosity. His insightful comments and constructive guidance significantly strengthened my research study. I am truly grateful for his mentorship and academic contribution. His dedication to public health research and capacity building will be remembered and deeply missed. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may comfort be granted to his family, colleagues, and the academic community….

My brother Prosper, The Preacher in Ecclesiastes looked at life and concluded that “all is vanity, and chasing the wind”. One of the reasons that lead him to this conclusion is this: “I have seen everything in this meaningless life, including the death of good young people and the long life of wicked people” Because of the sorrow, we could agree with the Preacher, but yours was not a meaningless life. You were such a good man! A good husband and father, a good friend, a good colleague, a good mentor, a true son of Africa. You have accomplished so much and touched so many lives. Today I’m standing here with El Hadj and Sam, representing the PAMCA family. A family you served wholeheartedly for a good 10 years. Through thick and thin, you exemplified true servant leadership. We want to thank you. In the past 2 years as you were fighting for your life and as PAMCA was going through a crisis, you always wanted to support and help. We want to promise you that we will do everything we can to revive PAMCA. This moment of sorrow gives us even more resolve. We owe it to you…

Prosper was a warm and gentle human being and I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I maybe only saw Prosper 4 or 5 times since we first met in 2010 but each time, I thoroughly enjoyed his company, and we shared some good laughs together when we did catch up. Some people really stick in your heart and mind and Prosper was one of them. My deepest condolences to his family. …
