I was shocked and deeply sadden to recently learn of Dave’s passing. At such a ridiculously young age. Although we both worked at Willis for years, our times together were always in a social capacity, whether that be at lunch, in the evenings or playing 5 a side football. During these times you always made me laugh with your wicked sense of humour. I remember particulary that occasion in the 80’s, when The Antiques Roadshow was recording in the Corn Exchange. You wanted to take me in to be valued, because I was the oldest thing you had excess to. Happy days! Now I’m still here, and you’re not. Doesn’t seem right. My condolences to Julie and the family …

In loving memory of Dave, a remarkable colleague and an expert in the marine insurance broking industry. Though we worked oceans apart, his unwavering support and expertise made a profound impact on my work and professional growth at the time in WTW. His generosity in sharing knowledge and guidance will always be remembered with deep gratitude. May he rest in peace….

For nearly 30 years, our paths kept crossing – sometimes by chance, sometimes by choice – but always with a sense of familiarity. Dave was someone who left a mark – with his character, his humor, and his openness. It’s hard to grasp that he has left us so suddenly and far too soon. His passing leaves a deep void, but also countless funny memories that will remain with us. Rest in peace, Dave. You will not be forgotten….

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Dave’s passing at such an early age. It was a pleasure knowing him and sharing many times together, at work, playing darts together for Marine Division and always a pleasure having a few drinks and chatting with him. Dave will be sorely missed by all that knew him. My deepest and sincere sympathies go to Julie and family. Rest in peace Dave you were a great guy and a true gentleman….

When I heard the news about Dave, I was so sad. What a legend. He wasn’t just my mentor during those early insurance years, he made the whole ride way more fun. From the wisdom he shared to the jokes we cracked, he had a way of making even the most complicated policies seem like a walk in the park. And the nickname he gave me? Still going strong 30 years later! That’s the kind of impact he had, his humour, kindness, and that infectious energy will live on in all of us. Sending my best to Julie and his family during this tough time. He was one of the greats, and I know he’ll be missed. Rest in peace Dave x Michelle Tingley …

So you know before all of us, how it looks at the other side. Something or nothing. A pleasure having known you. We seriously run out of crazy guns like you. Safe onwards journey, Dave. …

I will genuinely miss Dave’s great humour and ability to broke the unbrokable with style, grace and a great smile even when he didnt get the answer he wanted. I am so sorry and send my condolences to his family and close friends. …

A truly devastating loss and my deepest condolences to Warnie’s family and loved ones.  I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Dave for how much I learnt from him and his support in my early career. Dave made an impact but didn’t seek the attention most crave as that would have been a distraction from servicing his Clients. Class act. He leaves behind a great legacy of professionalism, knowledge and dedication to his craft. A Warnie “quip” was also the stuff of legend.  An honor and a privilege old boy. RIP…

Though we worked in different offices, Dave’s presence was always felt through his guidance, and the steady support he provided to all of us. He was not just a skilled and experienced colleague but also someone who brought warmth and professionalism to every interaction. I will remember Dave for his dedication, his willingness to help, and the positive impact he had on our work and team. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace, Dave…

Roger Spicer

Dave will be sorely missed.  He was true professional and worked tirelessly for his clients.  As a colleague he brought a great sense of humour and I remember fondly some of the social events we were at together. Dave never forgot Mrs Rog chastising him for not putting on his seatbelt when we had both had one too many.  RIP Warney! My sincere condolences to all his family and friends….

Andy Hannay

It is so very sad that such a kind-hearted man has been taken so early. As a young underwriter he was happy to give me the time of day.  Latterly I learnt that you could tell the time of day by his arrival in the underwriter’s office. I will miss the optimism that was always maintained at every renewal and the occasional nervous laugh about the prospect of having to present some difficult renewal terms to a client. I have very fond memories of Dave recounting various tales of years gone by.   My sincere condolences to family and friends Rest in peace. Andy…

So very sad to lose Warney at such an early age. Lovely guy, great to do business with and always one to find a solution in tricky circumstances and with a smile too! RIP Warney….

Warney had a truly unique way of going about things and some of those emails we wrote “together” back in the day were absolute masterpieces! I still laugh at the instant response of “Too much blah, blah, blah” from one of his more challenging clients after he had spent a good couple of hours wording the outgoing message! Dave was a great mentor to me during our time together at SSL and always happy to pay you a compliment when things were going well and be understanding in the event of the odd cock-up! He will always have my respect for the help he provided and, despite our meet ups being less often in recent years, I’ll miss him a lot and pass on my sincere condolences to his family. RIP Warney….

We started in the Marine Hull team at Willis just 2 weeks apart in August 1980.  Both sticking clauses into policies, which was not the only thing you were better at than me.  Both running teams, with day release at Suffolk college, not allowed back in the office for lunch as we weren’t dressed appropriately, those were the days …  You were always the natural sportsman, we played squash once, I never made that mistake again.  You made the move to London & back to Ipswich before the bright lights tempted you for good.  Since your return to Willis, after your time on the dark side, was a pleasure working with you more closely & being the testing ground for some of your brokes.  You were always so much more positive than me.  Taken far, far too early, rest in peace my friend. You will be sadly missed.  Robbo…
