Dave- you were always a friendly face in the office- always enjoyed taking American football with you. Utterly shocked and saddened by the news. You were utterly loved and admired by all those who knew you. You were one of the first people I met at my time at Nomura. Really enjoyed working working with you. May you rest in peace. …

I met Big Dave at Nomura in 2014, when we began working on the same project. He was professional, experienced, polite, efficient and calm but more than that, he was a nice bloke. He had time for a chat, he’d invite you to the pub and you’d accept, because it was Dave. He’d tell stories of being a bouncer in Blackpool, back in the day. He liked a pub quiz, and was knowledgable so as to be good at it too – he was on the team that last won the trophy – and would sometimes remind me that I wasn’t 🙂 But this was banter, as he was self-effacing too. I have the trophy next to me as a permanent reminder, as much as anything can be permanent. His leaving drinks were on the same day as Queen Elizabeth’s passing, but the latter was put on hold to worry about later, as it was somehow less important. He will be missed by many. Cheers Dave….

I only worked with Dave briefly at MUFG, but in that time he struck me as a decent, equable and thoroughly genuine person. My sympathy and condolences to all his family and friends….

I was so sad to hear this news, I worked with Dave at Nomura, he was a very kind and caring man. Fiercely proud of his Northern roots, so honest and trustworthy. A huge loss but very fond memories. I have been thinking of you all today. Sending love to you all, Fiona x…

I had the immense privilege of knowing Dave for nearly four decades, ever since we first crossed paths in the mid-1980s during my first year at Manchester University. Over the years, we became firm friends, sharing countless unforgettable moments filled with laughter, mischief, and camaraderie. There are far too many stories to tell, but each one is a testament to the joy he brought into our lives. Dave was the life and soul of any night out. His razor-sharp wit could have a room in stitches within minutes, and his warmth made everyone feel welcome. It’s hard to put into words what a great friend—and all-round good egg—he truly was. Perhaps the Good Book says it best: ‘There is a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance.’ And in our sadness, we must also remember the joy. The funny moments. The memories that still make us smile. One that always comes to my mind is a weekend away when the sole of the only pair of shoes I’d packed gave out. Without hesitation, Dave marched me to the nearest newsagent, bought a roll of Sellotape, and patched them up….

I first met Dave in 2016 while working at Nomura. As someone much more junior, I’ll always remember his kindness and patience in helping me navigate not only a new company but the complexities of a Japanese bank. He was not only a generous mentor but also a great presence to unwind with at the pub after work ! We reconnected earlier this year through Ray C. over a couple of beers, and it was lovely to see Dave in such good spirits. Rest in peace, Dave. You’ll be missed….

I was deeply saddened to hear about Dave’s recent passing. I must admit, it was a total shock since we had only recently caught up for a beer in the city, and as ever, Dave was in great spirits.   We worked closely together for six years, and even after he left Nomura, we stayed in touch, often catching up socially. I distinctly remember Dave taking the bragging rights for a Tuesday night 1-0 Blackpool away win over QPR at Loftus Road (though bragging wasn’t really Dave’s style – instead, we grabbed a quick post-game beer!).   He was a true gentle giant, always up for a laugh and someone with a natural gift for bringing people together. As a project manager and as a friend, he made a lasting impact on those around him. That was clear from all the kind messages from Nomura colleagues.   He’ll be greatly missed and fondly remembered. RIP, Dave….

I was deeply saddened to hear the news. David was not only an outstanding project manager but also a wonderful team member whose knowledge and kindness made a real difference to all of us. I’ll always remember our daily chats – about holiday plans, sports, discovering great restaurants and especially those moments we proudly shared our children’s success on hockey pitch. My thoughts are with his family….

I would like to pass on my condolences to the Sadler family from down here in New Zealand. I was lucky enough to work with Dave back in the late ’90s at NatWest Markets, and like so many others, I have nothing but fond memories. Dave was super generous with his time, especially for a Kiwi working in London for the first time. He was always up for a chat, happy to share his time and knowledge — whether it was about tech, banking, or where to find the best pint in the area. Good times and great memories. Rest easy, Big Dave. You’ll be missed….

I was deeply shocked and at a loss for words upon hearing the sudden news of Dave’s passing. We once worked together at the same company, sharing many hours side by side. Even after we had moved on, we would still meet up occasionally for a drink at the pub, and those moments—full of laughter and good conversation—are memories I will always cherish. Dave often spoke of his children, Emma and Thomas, with such joy and pride. Every time he mentioned them, it was clear how deeply he loved and cared for them. His warmth and affection for his family were always evident and truly reflected the kind of person he was. He once kindly took the time to give my daughter a lecture on project management in Nomura. It may have been a small gesture to him, but to us, it showed his generosity and his willingness to support and guide others. We were both deeply touched by his kindness and sincerity. Dave’s smile, his sense of humor, his integrity at work, and above all, his devotion to his family—these are the things I will always remember and hold close. I offer my deepest condolences and pray that…

I was deeply saddened/shocked to hear about the passing of Dave. Although it’s been many years since I worked alongside him at RBS, his larger than life presence, humour and constant smile are forever how I remember him. His absence will be keenly felt by all who knew him. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. He was an incredible man and he will be sadly missed….
