Memories of

Brandusa Tataru-Marinescu

This remembrance book is in loving memory of Brandusa, our clever, wise, funny, beautiful, lovely and loving friend and colleague, beloved wife, mum, daughter and sister.  She will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Brandusa joined Kingsley Napley from Taylor Wessing in 2015 as a senior associate. She was our first specialist, non-contentious construction lawyer and became a partner in 2017. In her years with Kingsley Napley, Brandusa developed our construction practice from scratch to become a successful and respected team in the industry.

Many will remember Brandusa most for her dedication to responsible business at Kingsley Napley,  She was a passionate advocate for Diversity and Inclusion in particular, working tirelessly to raise awareness of Diversity and Inclusion issues, and spearheading many of the changes and breakthroughs Kingsley Napley have made in this sphere.

In recognition of her passion and achievements, in December 2020  we inaugurated with Brandusa the annual Brandusa Tataru-Marinescu Award for Diversity & Inclusion.  The purpose of the award is to advance the understanding of Diversity and Inclusion issues in society, through the study and application of law.  Brandusa was very happy that this will be done in her name.

It seems so wrong to be writing about Brandusa in these circumstances but she was so warm, kind and supportive and, reading others’ comments, it really shows how much people thought of her. I’m sincerely sorry for your loss but I hope that it will be some comfort knowing that Brandusa’s KN family are here for your family at this difficult time. Laura Phillips  …

Horia, Kara Luca and Family I just wanted to pass my sincere condolences to you all following Brandusa leaving us all far too soon.  I am a partner of hers in the Dispute Resolution Team.  Brandusa was so talented and inspirational. A joy to work with. She was kind and generous and will be missed – but never forgotten – by us all.  I promise that we will continue to promote the causes that were dear to Brandusa’s heart in her honour.  My thoughts are with you all at this difficult time, but may you take some comfort from the wonderful legacy she left. With love, Sue …

Dear Brandusa Never again will I forget to say “construction” when I talk about the firm’s Real Estate and Construction team. You have left a wonderful mark on this world.  Sending so much love to your beautiful family. Rest in peace. Stacey xxx…

Dear Horia and family, I am so sorry for your loss and sending you my deepest condolences and love. Brandusa was such a fantastic person and I feel incredibly lucky to have known her. At work she was an inspriational role model, clear about her views and unafraid of voicing them and always beautifully dressed when she did so! Whether it was working together on D&I initiatives or catching up over coffee, Brandusa always had the best advice and was so supportive. My favourite memory will always be dancing late into the night in Ancient Roman costumes at a conference in Rome, with Brandusa keeping me on the dancefloor far longer than I would normally manage! She will be so missed by so many.  Thinking of you all and sending lots of love, Katie x…

Dear Horia and family, I was in the the Real Estate *and Construction* team with Brandusa (she gave us a telling off if we ever just said ‘Real Estate’ and quite right too!!). As soon as I joined the team in 2019, Brandusa’s welcome was warm, generous and inclusive – as is her way. I was near her sunny corner of the office, and she often reminded me to open the blinds and let the sun in. My most precious memories of B are our chats about work outfits (I was never as beautifully coordinated as her!) and her little kindnesses, which had such a huge impact on the people around her. I am of course talking about all the cake! And the white rose, which I treasure. B was truly a bright star and my life is better having known her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Emma…

I only knew Brandusa for a short time but Brandusa didn’t need long to have an impact on people. Brandusa had so much energy, always looked glamorous and put passion into everything she did – she was a power woman! I still remember back in December last year Brandusa gave me a compliment on my hair saying she noticed I had dyed it darker which I thought was lovely for her to have noticed anyway.. little did I know she had already received some difficult news yet even when going through what was the hardest time of her life she still took time to make others feel good. She was truly the most selfless person, an example of how we should all be in life, and she led by example and with passion till the end. Brandusa did not waste any part of her life, she really put her heart and soul into every situation and that is why she will be remembered by so many people. Even when she was going through the darkest of times she was still the brightest light for everyone else. Will miss you Brandusa x …

Dear Horia and Family,  I wanted to add this poem which I came across since writing my message.  I think it’s rather lovely and so appropriate for Brandusa. Hopefully you will take comfort from it:   Something Beautiful Remains   The tide recedes but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand. The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land.  The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains… For every joy that passes,  something beautiful remains.   …

Dear Horia, Kara, Luca and family,  We are so sorry for your loss of our beautiful friend Brandusa. What a wonderful person she was, brave, funny, smart, direct, fearless and always wanting to leave the world a better place. Max and I will always remember our chats with her in our respective massage sessions in KQ basement, where we would have a good old natter and set the world to rights. And Max says sorry for all those intense foot massages! She made my job as Responsible Business Manager easier and more enjoyable with her passion, knowledge and determination about all things D&I. People like Brandusa are true role models who walk the walk every day and call out injustice when they see it. Her passion and contribution to D&I will live on in the KN/Brandusa Tataru-Marinescu Award for Diversity & Inclusion. We’re excited to see where this will lead. She had so much energy for that and all the other things she held dear to her, especially her family. She loved talking about you all and her hopes and dreams for Kara and Luca. We hope that you will keep all those memories of the adventures you had as…

Blimey, what a wonderful person we’ve lost.  I worked with Brandusa on a couple of matters, one in particular I just used her for her Romanian language skills.  I felt bad every time and she would reassure me that it was fine, and that fraud cases seemed very exciting.  She seemed to see the good in everything and I am so very sad that she’s gone. …

Dear Horia, Kara, Luca and all your family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Whilst there is nothing I can say to take away your pain and sadness, I hope that in time you take comfort and strength from the many wonderful stories and memories shared in this book by people who loved Brandusa. It takes an extraordinary person to have such a lasting impact on so many. Sending you all my love and thoughts, Grace…

Dear Horia, Kara, Luka and family    I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that all that you shared together will hold you and carry you through the coming weeks and months.    Brandusa was always a smiley and friendly presence at work and her dedication to D&I was inspiring.    Thinking of you. …

Dear Horia and family I am so sorry for your loss. Brandusa was taken far too soon and it seems so unfair. What a fabulous human she was though, and how lucky we were to have known her. My memories of her is that she was a breath of fresh air. Headstrong (dare I say stubborn?), a force of nature. She knew what she wanted to achieve and went for it, and I really admired that in her. She was inspiring because of it (and many other things), and a female leader for me to look up to at the firm. She also brought a different and fresh perspective to lots of things, but was always open to discussing and debating them, which was so welcome.  She was also fun. She really enjoyed life and it felt always like she was determined to get the most out of it. On a plane trip to Riga for an AIJA conference – I was uptight and worrying about an email I hadn’t sent – and Brandusa just told me to get on and send it, and then ordered snacks and a glass of wine each and we put the world to…

Dear Horia and family, sending you my deepest condolences and thoughts at this time. I knew Brandusa primarily through the D&I group and she really does epitomise the sort of lawyer and person we should all aspire to be. Every time I met her she was warm, friendly, positive and genuinely interested in the experiences of others. She really made our firm a better place by being in it and she will be sorely missed by all those who were lucky enough to meet her. Best wishes, Maeve …

Dear Horia and family I knew Brandusa through D&I initiatives.  She was inspiring, and always spoke so passionately.  I also got the sense she was impatient (in a good way!) for change and progress to be made.  The world has lost a thoroughly decent and caring soul.  I am thinking of you all, and I am so sorry for your loss. Dear Horia and family, I did not have the privilege of working with Brandusa, but I know from my many colleagues who did that she was a very important contributor to KN’s culture. I am so very sorry for your loss and hope that you take some comfort from knowing what an inspiration person Brandusa was….
