Memories of

Brandusa Tataru-Marinescu

This remembrance book is in loving memory of Brandusa, our clever, wise, funny, beautiful, lovely and loving friend and colleague, beloved wife, mum, daughter and sister.  She will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Brandusa joined Kingsley Napley from Taylor Wessing in 2015 as a senior associate. She was our first specialist, non-contentious construction lawyer and became a partner in 2017. In her years with Kingsley Napley, Brandusa developed our construction practice from scratch to become a successful and respected team in the industry.

Many will remember Brandusa most for her dedication to responsible business at Kingsley Napley,  She was a passionate advocate for Diversity and Inclusion in particular, working tirelessly to raise awareness of Diversity and Inclusion issues, and spearheading many of the changes and breakthroughs Kingsley Napley have made in this sphere.

In recognition of her passion and achievements, in December 2020  we inaugurated with Brandusa the annual Brandusa Tataru-Marinescu Award for Diversity & Inclusion.  The purpose of the award is to advance the understanding of Diversity and Inclusion issues in society, through the study and application of law.  Brandusa was very happy that this will be done in her name.

Dear Horia, Kara and Luka, and all of Brandusa’s family I was so sad to hear of Brandusa’s passing and I am sending my love and sympathies to you all. I have missed seeing Brandusa over the past year while we have been working from home and I can only imagine how much you will miss her now.  I will miss bumping into her in the office kitchen while I make a cup of tea. She always had something nice to say, a compliment or a story to tell. I will miss her funny observations in Book Club. She found something to enjoy in even the worst book, and we read some really terrible ones. I will miss her warmth and support in our Diversity group meetings. I will miss silly little things like looking forward to seeing what stylish outfit she would wear next. She always looked wonderful, she was so confident in herself and she was always kind.  Looking back I can see I have really only known her for a few years, but it feels like so much longer when I look at the amazing impact she has had on me, on the firm and out…

It is so hard to find the right words to say even when those before me have done just that.  Such wonderful messages of love, support and how incredible Brandusa was – we have been so lucky to have her in our lives. Please hold on to the time before her illness and think of something wonderful that makes you smile.  If her favourite song plays, please get up and dance no matter where you are – she would want your lives to be full of love and laughter.  It takes something so sad in life to remind us to enjoy the little things.  Hugs and love from my family to yours.  …

Dear Horia and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I feel lucky and incredibly privileged to have known Brandusa through the KN Diversity & Inclusion Group, and was always struck by her energy, spirit and compassion. She was such a kind soul; always at the ready with a smile for anyone who needed to see a friendly face. Sending you love and strength at this time, Ches x  …

It has been hard to write this because I feel so sad that this moment has arrived.   I wanted you to know some of the memories I have with Brandusa.  I first met her in an LGBTQ+ and Allies Network meeting.  She had just started at KN and she joined the meeting bursting with energy and enthusiasm.  She very quickly became someone I loved seeing at work – we would have a good chat and a laugh, but there was a seriousness too: she always cared and wanted to make sure I was doing okay.  As I progressed through my career (from paralegal to trainee and then onto qualification), she was always cheerleading me.  It meant so much to me to have such an intelligent, driven, kind, fierce female role model who was rooting for me; she made me feel comfortable and confident to be myself at work – she was the first person I told at KN when I got engaged and it meant a lot to see how happy she was. When I had the opportunity to work in the Real Estate and Constuction team during my training, she took me under her wing and wanted to involve me in…

Dear Horia and family, I met Brandusa when I first joined KN in 2014 and we sat together at the Christmas Party and bonded over our newness! I remember her talking so fondly about her lovely family at that time. She was so respected by everyone who met her at the firm, and everyone talks so kindly of her in conversations which we have sadly had in recent weeks but whilst reminiscing about the good times, which is testament to how wonderful she was. My thoughts are with you all at this time. Best wishes, Rebecca  …

Dear Horia and Brandusa’s family,  I worked with Brandusa through the D&I Group where she was always full of thoughtful, kind and clever contributions. She was such a brilliant and enthusiastic colleague and brought amazing passion to our projects. What I think of now when I recall her presence, is how she seemed to bring so much of her authentic and warm self to work which was inspirational for so many of us finding our way in our worklife.  I am so sorry for your loss. Dear Horia and Family, I am so vey sorry for your loss.  Brandusa was taken away from you much too young.  I did not know her very well but met her at internal meetings and spoke to her about client matters from time to time. I will always remember her as being warm and kind and bringing tremendous energy to everything she did.  She will be sorely missed. Best wishes to you all Adrian  …

Dear Horia and family I am so very sorry for your loss. When I joined KN in 2016, I was very lucky to have Brandusa as my buddy. She took me for lunch on my arrival and I was extremely grateful for how kind, welcoming and helpful she was.  She was then a Senior Associate but was so obviously destined for partnership, she was so impressive and intelligent. I remember our first meeting so distinctly where she talked with huge affection about her family and particularly Kara and Luka. Our work paths unfortunately did not cross often but it was always lovely to see her when they did.  She will be missed by so many of us at KN….

Dear Horia and family. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Brandusa was the most energetic, kind and fun woman to work with and I am so very sad that she is no longer with us. I will never forget how supportive she was of me when I led the firm’s International Women’s Day initiatives a couple of years ago which helped me so much – she was always so passionate about diversity and inclusion and I will forever be inspired by her commitment to it. She will be so missed by all of us who knew her and worked with her. Sending you all my love and support at this time, Anna x x  …

Dear Kara, Luka, Horia, Rodica, Liviu, Radu and Coca, I am so sorry for your loss! Dear Horia, Kara, Luca and family When I think of Brandusa I think of her wit, laughter, passion for life and also her strength, wisdom, her ability to be direct and unsentimental whilst also compassionate and appreciative of all the beautiful things life has to offer.  She had determination to do things well herself but, most importantly, to use her position to help others to achieve and to be the best that they can be.   Losing Brandusa has left a hole in all of our lives, but it is a heart shaped hole, full of love and positive energy.  She has touched many lives and her legacy will be the goodness she has left in others.   Big hug to you all Louise…

Dear Horia, Kara and Luca I am so very sorry for your loss.  Brandusa was the most amazing, kind, caring, funny, passionate lady that I had the pleasure of knowing.  She was such a breath of fresh air to everyone who crossed her path.  This is such a cruel and unfair world we live in, she was taken far too soon and far too young.  May you take comfort in all the many loving messages from everyone at KN.  Will miss you Brandusa… you will always be in my memeory.  Love Kaz x…

Dear Horia and family I hardly knew Brandusa – we met maybe three times, in Dulwich Park and when we came for tea with you.  I soon realised that she was a truly lovely human being.   I can’t get the awful event of her passing out of my mind.  The world needs people like Brandusa.   My heart goes out to you all.  You and Brandusa are in my thoughts.   With love, Norman Woolley (Linda’s dad) xx…
