Professor Josephine Arendt

Remembering the good times with Jo.

I first met Jo when she joined the University of Surrey in the 1980s. No office was available for her to use so she shared my small cosy abode. I have many memories of our time together in that small increasingly nicotine laden space. We shared ideas and opinions in the rapidly developing fields of immunoassay technology, melatonin and circadian rhythms, therapeutic drug monitoring, and cancer therapeutics. Jo’s enthusiasm resulted in us persuing a number of studies on the circadian effects on cancer drug pharmacokinetics. Over this period of time Jo and I became firm friends which endured through my move to the Institute of Cancer Research and into our respective retirements. We had many good times discussing not only various aspects of science but all aspects of current affairs and in particular our love of gardening, good food and family life.

I will remember Jo for her enthusiasm, energy, encouragement, wisdom, humour, love of good food and drink, her genuine interest in those around her, and enduring friendships. She will be greatly missed by family and friends and a wide range of colleagues around the world whose work she inspired.
