Sylvia Horton
I first met Sylvia in 1996. She was working at Portsmouth University and running a BAPS course. I arranged to go and see her and she helped me getting enrolled on the course. The course was modular and lasted 3 years. Sylvia became my personal tutor and helped me enormously. In 1999 I graduated from the University with a 2.1 degree. I kept in touch with Sylvia as we became good friends. We enjoyed lively discussions about politics and world affairs. Twice a year in the summer and Xmas we would go out for a curry. She was always cheerful and optimistic. Sadly her eyesight and general health deteriorated and it became difficult for her to walk anywhere. We took to having our currys at her house. Caring for her mother was almost a fulltime job for Sylvia. It was demanding but she never failed to remain cheerful. I last saw her in January 2023. We planned to meet again in the summer, but my own health gave me problems and I was unable to plan a summer appointment with her. I shall miss her enormously. She was in every sense of the word a good person and a great friend. May she rest in peace. Terry Kelleher
