1974. The Belgrade, Coventry and our friendship began. You named us after two local hotels – Laura Leofric and Denys De Vere. And so we remained down the years, Laura and Denys. A loving friendship that lasted beyond a single job, you and dear Michel – and Yoric! – providing me with comfort and fun at Perrymead Street. So many lovely dinners and New Years Eves, all together.
The years moved on – and then you had your big op. And down you came to stay in Bristol where I was working – you and your Hickman Line. Brave and funny; an Anthony I hadn’t glimpsed before. Seemingly fearless in your strong faith.
And so, dear Denys, thank you for all those golden days, your jewel-like knowledge (literally) about so many things and the wonderful fun.
Rest in peace.
