One of a kind, Patsy combined the highest qualities of intellectual and institutional leadership and moved between them with ease. She strove for the highest quality in everything she did, encouraged others to the same standards, but with a humanity that allowed her colleagues to find the place in which they could reach their own personal best. It’s thirty years since I first knew Patsy as a young researcher, but her advice and personal example still resonate with me and I feel privileged to have known her in the early part of my academic career.
