Remembering Bimpe Bucknor
Many of us are still coming to terms with Bimpe’s passing.
It seems like only yesterday when we met for the first time and I was struck by the larger than life energy that radiated from her. Our shared sense of humor, frequent family stories, and her depth of sports knowledge meant we got on like a house on fire immediately. It felt like we had known each other for years.
One of the most astute and brilliant lawyers I had come across, her intelligence and legal suave was only matched by her kindness and humble nature. It was Bimpe’s character which made her so endearing to everyone. No task was beneath her and despite juggling a busy family life, charity work, and her health, she always found time to help those around her with incredible grace. She tackled every challenge with laughter, integrity and an enthusiasm which inspired others.
I will miss our banter, philosophical chats, work rants, her constantly teasing me on my mispronunciation of Nigerian dishes she had recommended and most of all, her warm presence. It has been a privilege to work with and learn from her. Bimpe was a mentor, a partner-in-crime and a friend. I wish I had the opportunity to spend more time with her and express how grateful I am for her guidance, wisdom, and the trust she always showed in me.
I take solace from the fact that I will carry those lessons, and her bright spirit, both personally and professionally with me for the years to come.
