Dear Esther and family,

At this very sad time, I would like to add my condolences to you; Derek touched the lives of many folks, including those of us who were fortunate enough to count him as a colleague. Hugely thoughtful and considerate of those he worked with, I could tell that Derek cared deeply, understanding that behind every colleague was a human being. He stood out because of this. As his legacy in the workplace, he has left many of his contributions to how work is done, still in use. We will remember him,
