S A Vanar (1951-2021)

I will always remember my brother-in-law Vanar as we both had a fascination with aeroplanes.  When I resided in KL, every so often on the weekends he would drive the family out to the airport, park up outside the fence (in those days there were no high security fences) and spend an hour or so watching these beautiful big “Birds of the Sky” land & take off.  Afterwards we went for an ice cream.  Happiness.  On a visit back to the UK, as we were nearing the airport we could see 2 aeroplanes on the tarmac.  One was a JUMBO (rare in those days,  70’s).  Excitement.  I was never sure who was more excited, Vanar or I.  I was on that Jumbo !!!  His love of both travel & aeroplanes were a perfect match.  Over the years, after my return to the UK, he would often forward news/photos of aeroplanes.  Very thoughtful.

Vanar was hardworking & meticulous, stoic especially during his long illness & a man of integrity.  All admirable qualities.

Rest in peace, dear Vanar.
