By chance, Steve never taught me at the NCP, but did teach my late elder brother at Radley who remembered him – as do we all – with both respect and affection.

As the OP Rep in Victoria at the time, it was a huge pleasure to welcome Steve here during his two visits, when even those who didn’t know him were left with an indelible impression of not just a ‘gentle’man, but also someone to whom the old school alumni – or should I say ‘family’ – meant to so much. 

‘Respect’ and ‘affection’ are indeed the words that say it all of Steve, and I feel privileged that the contemplative image I took of him enjoying his pipe at an OP Dinner some years ago has since been used in this and other commemorative dispatches. On receiving a copy of it from me at the time, Steve modestly thought it ‘quite apt’!  RIP
